School Safety a Top Priority!
Recently, a Dos Rios kindergartner was struck by a moving vehicle in our school crosswalk. Fortunately, his injuries were relatively minor, and he was able to return to school following day! This unfortunate event only reinforces the importance of teaching safety practices to all of our children and modeling safe practices through our adult actions.
Prior to this accident, we sent home parent letters about safe drop-off and pick-up procedures, which we are resending to all families along with this month's October Buffalo Bulletin. Additionally, we have been working with District Six and the City of Evans to evaluate our practices as well as improvements to signage and our crosswalk. We have also secured additional support for our crossing guard both through paid and volunteer services. We especially want to thank Dos Rios parents Frank Saucedo and Holli Kitchell for volunteering their mornings and afternoons, respectively, to ensure that students and parents cross 34th Street safely!
As we move forward, we ask that you do not send students to school earlier than our staff is on duty. We will have a crossing guard on duty beginning at 7:50 a.m. daily, and playground supervision begins at 8:05 a.m. If you choose to accompany your child to school prior to 8:05 a.m., please ensure you or another adult is available to supervise them until our staff begins morning duty. We appreciate everyone’s support and are always open to working together on better solutions. Thank you!
