August 2012 - Welcome Back to School!

I am very excited to welcome you and your students to the 2012-2013 school year here at Scott Elementary School.  We have many new topics to learn about in third grade, so it is extremely important that your child arrives to school on time, each day, ready to learn.  The school day begins at 8:25 each day and ends at 2:00 on Mondays and 3:30 Tuesday– Friday.  The playground is open and breakfast is served at 8:10 daily.

Homework plays a crucial role in extending your child’s learning and reinforcing the skills learned in class.  Your child will have about 45 minutes of homework each night with the exception of Friday.  Approximately 25 minutes of Literacy (Star Reader) and 20 minutes should be spent on math.  Please be sure to sign your child’s planner each night—this shows me that they have completed their reading for that particular night.   Homework is an opportunity for you to become involved with your child’s education, so please support them in any way that you can.  You can also expect Thursday Folders every Thursday as well as a newsletter each month.

We will be celebrating birthdays on the first Friday of each month.  I will be in contact prior to you child’s birthday celebration as well as other holiday parties.
