English Language Development

The goal of the WCSD6 English Language Development (ELD) Program is to provide linguistically diverse learners equitable access to structured learning opportunities that will accelerate their social and academic English, entry points to grade level content, and increase academic achievement by means of a sustained collaborative effort.
ELD is designed to teach students who speak a language other than English how to understand, speak, read, and write in English.
As students are acquiring English, they are also learning math, science, social studies, and other subjects in the school curriculum.  Teachers in the ELD Program are highly qualified, Cultural and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) endorsed and specifically trained to teach students who are learning English.
