Student Enrollment and Welcome Center

The Welcome Center provides one-stop enrollment services for new students entering any District 6 school, particularly thse students whose families primarily speak a language other than English.

The center works with schools and community agencies to help families new to the area access the resources they need to ensure their children are in school, learning, and building a bright future.

The Welcome Center helps new families with ...

  • filling out paperwork and completing language testing that is necessary for students to begin attending school.
  • applying for free and reduced-price school meals.
  • evaluating what academic skills students have and what grade level they should be placed in.
  • evaluating students’ English skills and fluency.
  • providing translation and interpretation services for those who do not speak English.
  • obtaining information on school bus service, breakfast and lunches, health services, preschool programs, youth programs, parent involvement classes, classes for parents to learn English, and more.
  • obtaining information about community resources for families.
