Our school district serves the neighboring cities of Greeley and Evans, which are located in Weld County, Colorado. Combined, this area has a population of about 100,000 people.
Greeley and Evans are in the north-central part of Colorado. We're situated on the farming plains, just east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. On our frequent sunny days, you can see the Front Range mountains of the Rockies off to the west. It's an agricultural area, with acres of farms and ranches all around.
The City of Greeley is named after 19th century newspaper publisher Horace Greeley, who inspired a group of people from back east to join together, move west, and form a utopian society in 1870. You'll see many references to this "Union Colony" in the names of organziations and places around Greeley.
The City of Evans is named after an early territorial governor of Colorado, John Evans.
Greeley is a college town, home to the University of Northern Colorado. Many of our teachers, principals and administrators are UNC alumni. We're proud Bear supporters, and work cooperatively on many projects and initiatives with the university, from student teacher placements to the annual Homecoming parade. Additionally, we are home to the outstanding Aims Community College, which offers more than 160 degree and certificate programs.
Greeley is also home to some large businesses and organziations. Major employers in the area include North Colorado Medical Center, JBS USA, and State Farm Insurance.
For fun and recreation, Greeley is world-renown for its annual Stampede rodeo. We also have a great Blues Jam, Octoberfest, and other annual events. A terrific civic center located in downtown Greeley hosts major theatrical and musical performances.
