Degrees and Certifications:
I am so excited to have you in my class! This will be my 11th year in Kindergarten at Christa McAuliffe. I've also taught kindergarten and first grade at several other schools in District Six. I believe kindergarten is one of the most important steps in a child's formal education. It is where most children learn to read and write independently and become mathematicians as well. It is a place to share information about their lives and also where they learn how to be a great friend. Our classroom is a place where each personality can shine; a fun place and a safe place to learn. I want my students to leave kindergarten with a love of learning and the confidence to succeed.
I grew up in a family of educators. My mom, grandma, aunt and sister-in-law were all teachers. I graduated from The University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Elementary Education. I also have an endorsement in Linguistically Diverse Education.
I have been married for 32 years. My husband Steve and I met in junior high here in Greeley. I have 3 sons: Matt and Jay, who are grown and live and work in Greeley and Brian, who is 22 and will be attending Law School at The University of Nebraska this Fall. Our grandson Tate, also fills our lives with joy! Our family includes Dexter, our miniature schnauzer.
Spending time with my family is my greatest hobby. Visiting, laughing and sharing together is the best! I love to watch classic movies from the 50's and 60's and enjoy musicals, too. I collect beautiful elephant figurines from around the world.
Teaching is not only what I help my students learn. It's also what they teach me, that is so rewarding.
I hope you'll enjoy learning in Kindergarten as much as I enjoy teaching it. I know it will be a wonderful school year!
