Brentwood I.B. World School
-
Brentwood is an IB World School. The International Baccalaureate Programme is an international program that was founded in 1968. It provides rigorous academic standards which are recognized globally, with over 4000 schools world-wide participating. After intensive preparation, accreditation work, and staff training, Brentwood Middle School was officially added to that elite list.
The IB provides students with a globally-minded, rigorous and well-rounded education. The program is inquiry based and student centered, implementing research-based best-practices in every classroom. Brentwood Middle School has been working in partnership with Dos Rios Elementary School and Greeley West High School to become the site of first three years of the rigorous Middle Years Programme, one of the three central components of the IB Programme. This is a school-wide program which meet needs of all learners, and continues after their graduation from Brentwood through their sophomore year at Greeley West High School. Students who graduate from Brentwood Middle School and have successfully completed their Community Projects are automatically accepted into the competative Middle Years Programme (DP Track) at Greeley West if they enroll at Greeley West High School for their freshman year. Students can then choose to participate in highly competitive Diploma Programme at Greeley West.
The IB Middle Years Programme focuses on ten Learner profiles, which encourage students to be: Inquirers, Thinkers, Open-Minded, Knowledgeable, Reflective, Balanced, Caring, Risk-Takers, and Communicators. Another core aspect of the MYP is an exploration of Global Contexts and Key Concepts through the curriculum in all of their Core and elective classes. These concepts include examining the impact of science and technology, considering issues of fairness and development in global politics, exploring identities and relationships, considering the different perspectives surrounding an individual’s orientation in time and space, learning about different forms of personal and cultural expression, and examining issues surrounding globalization and sustainability.
Brentwood Middle School is proud to be a partner and site for this rigorous, globally-recognized Programme!
