Caitlin is the Special Education teacher and Lead Collaborator. She has a master's degree in curriculum and instruction with a focus on urban education. She is passionate about social emotional learning, diversity in education, working with second language learners. She is a co-founder who believes all students deserve equal access to education.

Jeff Hillis
Purple Band Collaborator (Kindergarten)
Jeff holds a master’s degree in K-12 literacy and has been teaching for over 20 years in grades K-6. Jeff fell in love with early education while teaching kindergarten above the Arctic Circle in Kotzebue, Alaska. Jeff is currently working on a 2nd master’s in clinical counseling with a focus on play therapy. Jeff is thrilled to be joining the TSOI team as the Kindergarten, Purple Band collaborator in 2020!

Tatum Monaghan

Tatum will be entering her 16th year in elementary education; she taught in the classroom for 9 years and has been working as an instructional coach for the last 6. She holds a master’s degree in elementary education and is in the process of finishing her doctorate in education reform and research at UNC. Tatum has a passion for engaging students in aesthetic learning experiences and eco-justice education.

David Edwards

David is a co-founder and currently teaches in the middle school. He has a master's degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. He is passionate about divergent thinking and hands-on learning. He believes students learn by doing.

Dr. Courtney Luce

Courtney is one of the three co-founders and is a Floating Collaborator. She has been in education for 16 years and has spent the last 7 years working in the School of Teacher Education at the University of Northern Colorado. She has a doctorate in Educational Psychology and an undergraduate and master’s degree in English Education.

Coral holds a master's of curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in reading and has a wealth of experience teaching in early childhood, first grade, and as an interventionist. She enjoys collaborating with parents and staff to best meet student needs at TSOI.

Micah Jennings
Online Learning Collaborator
Micah graduated from UNC with a degree in elementary education with an emphasis in art and mathematics! Micah is starting her 4th year at TSOI and this is her second year teaching middle school and she is excited to work with this age group. Micah brings her passion for visual arts integration and mathematics into her teaching.

Patrick has a master’s degree in elementary education and has been teaching since 1986. Patrick also brings experience creating and opening a new school in New York and is excited to begin his fourth year teaching at TSOI.

Austin Vaclavik
Building Facilitator
If there is something you need at TSOI, Austin is likely the person with whom to start. Austin is the office manager, the health clerk, the attendance secretary, and the building manager. He also teaches exploratory classes with topics ranging from woodshop, to entrepreneurship, to sewing.
