6th Grade Language Arts

Hello, my name is Helen Paul.  I have been teaching for 19 years. This is my fouth year at Heath.   When I decided to attend the University of Northern Colorado, I really did not know what I wanted to study.  I wanted to improve myself, so I studied English because I was not a good reader or writer.  I want to help my students become better readers and writers as well.  Reading takes us on adventures, helps us become better people, and helps us escape the confines of school so that we can pursue our own education.  Writing helps us to express ourselves and communicate effectively with others.  I really enjoy teaching grammar, reading and writing. 

In class, we will be using the Summit Learning program.  In Summit Learning “Students learn from teachers through whole group instruction, small group sessions, and one-on-one time. With hands-on projects and group learning, teachers show students how to apply lifelong skills — such as collaborating with a team, interpreting data and presenting persuasive arguments.”  

On a personal note:  I am a mother of two adult children and grandmother of one.  I am child of immigrant parents.  I have lived in California, Minnesota, Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Vermont, New York, Wyoming  and Alberta, Canada. I enjoy traveling, food and the Broncos.
