2019 School Kickoff Community Celebration

  • 2019 Kickoff Event

  • Greeley-Evans School District 6 is hosting its sixth annual School Kickoff Community Celebration on Saturday, August 10 from 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Island Grove Regional Park, 501 North 14th Avenue in Greeley.

Through sponsorships and donations, District 6 has raised enough money to give away 4,000 backpacks filled with school supplies. This year’s backpacks are new and improved, and do not have sponsor logos on them. The backpacks will include more school supplies than previous years.

Backpacks will be given out to District 6 students only, grades preschool through 12. Students must be present at the event to receive a backpack. Student names will be checked against registration lists. If students are not registered in District 6, registration must be completed at the event through the District 6 Registrar before a backpack will be given to the student.

Donate Online Once a student’s registration is confirmed, they will be given a ticket to receive a backpack. All students who receive a ticket will be guaranteed a backpack, and can pick it up anytime during the event. There are different backpacks and supplies for elementary, and middle and high school students.

Volunteers will begin confirming registration and issuing tickets for backpacks at 8 a.m. The backpack giveaway will begin at 10 a.m.

This year, a free brunch will be served to those who attend, while supplies last. Join us for breakfast burritos, fruit and juice. Brunch service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue until supplies run out.

More than 70 community booths will be featured at the event, providing information, services and entertainment for students and their families. The event also includes a petting zoo provided by FFA students from Greeley West High School, free face painting, balloons, carnival games, student entertainment and many fun activities for families to enjoy. Emergency vehicles from the Greeley police and fire departments, a Greeley-Evans Transit bus and District 6 school bus will also be available for viewing and tours.

Mountain Vista Orthopedics will be on site to perform sports physicals for students at a no cost. New this year, District 6 and the Weld County Department of Public Health will be providing free, onsite vaccinations to District 6 students.

Families can also get information about schools and District 6 programs, register their student for school, and complete a free and reduced lunch application on site.

More than 200 volunteers help make this event possible, performing a variety of tasks from stuffing backpacks to serving lunch and handing out backpacks.

Volunteers are needed to help make our School Kickoff Celebration a success! We will need help at the event with many tasks including set up before the event, greeting people and handing out event information, distributing backpacks to students, food service and distributing lunch, and cleanup and breakdown after the event. If you are not available the day of the event, we will also need help earlier that week with stuffing backpacks with school supplies for the giveaway.
