• SPRING SEMESTER 2018
    Power Students of the Month

    D'Lana C MAY (RESPECT): D'LANA CHAIREZ

“An important observation from an instructor’s perspective is to simply be present in the moment, with a considerable amount of attention paid in that moment. In the classroom, D’Lana does an admirable job of remaining present and in the moment, displaying immense amounts of respect to the instructor and to her classmates. She is considerate of the others in their pursuit of education and of the instructor in the time and effort given to that pursuit. D’Lana is more than worthy of receiving of this nomination.
Critical thinking and the ability to view social situations with a critical lens are key to understanding how to see the world from a sociological perspective. D’lana has on numerous occasions demonstrated the ability to view situations with this critical lens, fully understanding how our personal lives are intertwined in the social structures, institutions, and fabric of society." (Frank Arpan, Sociology Instructor)

Sosa M APRIL (EFFORT): SOSA MENDOZA

“At the beginning of the spring semester, Sosa approached me and told me that he wanted to improve his grades and performance in my class. Since that moment, I’ve been impressed with his consistent productivity and effort not just in my class, but in several other classes as well.
As new ECA students, freshmen often struggle with the transition to both high school and college-level pace and content. For the first semester, Sosa and I had a lot of talks about behavior and work ethic and what it takes to be a successful high school and college student. He often had trouble staying on task and getting work done. Once he made it a personal goal to improve, I’ve seen him make a 180-degree turnaround. He’s consistently on task during class, asking for feedback and clarification, and his grades have really improved because of it. He’s also made it a point to come in for extra help after class and during office hours. Sosa has risen to the occasion and has shown what can be accomplished just by deciding to try harder and care about his education.” (Mark Kay, Spanish Instructor)

Angelica M MARCH (WORK): ANGELICA MANUEL FERNANDO

“Angelica is constantly prepared. She looks ahead of schedule on the course calendar, is always prompt, asks insightful and self-aware questions in class discussion and research processes, and consistently turns things on time if not early. She is a wonderful example of a student who has learned not only time management skills, but also how to use the resources available to her. She is quickly laying foundations for not only her college career, but her future professional one, too.
Not all the material comes easily to Angelica every time, but even during the occasions when she struggles with concepts and course content, she continues to strive to improve herself through knowledge. As I say in class, learning is not a talent, it is a skill. Angelica has proven that it truly is the effort that is given that creates growth.” (Sheyanne Lang, Professor of English Composition and Literature)

Rosa B FEBRUARY (OWNERSHIP): ROSA BATREZ DE LA CRUZ

“Rosa was unable to attend school at the beginning of the semester and could have quickly fallen behind in Public Speaking as the class moves at a quick pace. However, she took responsibility and ownership for her learning. She checked in to see what she needed to do, and then caught up with the rest of the class without any reminders. This was impressive as it included giving a speech without the benefit of seeing examples or watching her peers speak.
Rosa displays mature and positive behavior in her approach to the class and assignments. Her written work is thorough and timely and her presentations demonstrate a positive attitude and desire to learn. She is a model for her classmates.” (Lori Adair, COM Instructor)

Jaxson takes part in a myriad of activities where he represents ECA to the utmost. Whether it be his work on the Youth Commission, his appearance in talent shows, or working on his acting chops, Jaxon is a great representative of ECA, which demonstrates the pride he takes in both his school and education.
Jaxson shows other aspects of POWER through his grades, attendance, and involvement in many after school clubs including being Freshman Class President.
