• We now have a new program available to the school to allow students to read text that interest them at home and at school. Students can click on this link to MyOn and instantly have access to books, news stories, and research articles on topics that interest them. We would love students to be checking out this resource at home!

            Imagine a School

            • FTSOI Welcome to Fred Tjardes School of Innovation

Our school was designed by a team of educators. We began by thinking about what school is and what it could be. While the world has changed rapidly in the last 150 years and even more so in the last 20, schools have remained basically unchanged, so we decided to reimagine school.

What if school was about preparing students to be creators and innovators? What if it allowed students to wrestle with messy problems with multiple solutions? What if teachers asked students to find the problems in their community instead of posing all the problems for the students? We decided the world is changing, and it is time for school to do the same.

In order to do this, we have created a school that looks nothing like the traditional school. At The Fred Tjardes School of Innovation, students engage in learning through "Loops." Each loop is a seemingly simple topic that can be looked at through a variety of lenses. The goal is for students to see the interconnectedness of everything and to work at problems from multiple perspectives, not just subject-specific perspectives.

The best part is that learning is done with the end in mind. Students show their learning through innovation in ways that make sense to them.

            District 6 Headlines

            • All Means All

The Colorado Department of Education visited and filmed Centennial Elementary School to learn more about the dramatic academic turnaround in the school and our District. By focusing on the success of all of our students, the state of Colorado has seen 8 out of 11 District 6 schools move off of the state’s accountability clock. We are extremely proud of the work being done at Centennial Elementary! We hope you'll take a couple minutes to watch and learn more.
