Degrees and Certifications:
Miss Mikayla Hackett
Hello and welcome!
My name is Mikayla Hackett and I am excited to begin my first year of teaching at Meeker Elementary. I was born and raised in Kansas, where I attended college at Pittsburg State University in Southeast Kansas. At PSU I received my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in May, for K-12 Music including in Band, Choir, Orchestra, and Elementary Music. I have recently moved to Colorado and looking forward to beginning my teaching career!
I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of my students. I am passionate about all kinds of music and am eager to share my love for music with them! Our classess wil be educational and fun, guided by what I believe are three important aspects of elementary music education: the oppourtunity to Explore, to Experience and to Enjoy. There are many benifits to music education, including increase self esteem, improved memorization skills, development of creative thinking and staying engaged in school. The National Association for Music education had compiled a comprehensive list of 20 important Benefits of Music education here that you may find interesting.
While much of my time will be focused in teaching my students, music is also a part of my life outside of school. I enjoy playing several instruments and continuing to learn and grow as a musician. In my spare time, I also enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, sewing, and working on a variety of crafts.
