7th Grade, Classroom Procedures
All rules that are found in the Harold S. Winograd handbook will be enforced in 7th grade. In addition, please review the procedures we will be following.
TOYS/ELECTRONICS: No toys, trading cards, Gameboys, c.d. players, iPods, or any other leisure and electronic devices should be brought to school. Students who bring cell phones to school must have them turned off and away during the day. If a student uses the phone during the school day, the phone will be confiscated and parents will need to come to school to pick up the phone from the office.
GUM: No gum will be allowed at school.
DRINKS: No water bottles, juices, or power drinks will be allowed in class. There are drinking fountains in the classrooms and hallways.
RESTROOM: All restroom business must be taken care of during passing period. Should you need extra time, check in with a teacher first. If you arrive to class after it has begun you will be marked late, so plan wisely.
ELIGIBILITY: Winograd encourages students to participate in extra-curricular activities including sports, clubs, dances and lessons. In order to participate, you may have no more than ONE “F”. Eligibility is reviewed every Monday.
7th Grade, Grading Procedures
PREPARED: You must come to each class prepared. This means a pen and pencil, AVID notebook, loose leaf paper, and assignment planner.
HEADINGS: Each assignment that is turned in must include a heading with your name, the date, and period.
LATE WORK: Late work will be accepted 1 week after the due date and 10% will be taken off the assignment. After 1 week from the due date has past the assignment will become an automatic zero.
ABSENCES: If a day of school is missed, you will have one day to complete in-class and homework assignments for every day you missed. Please make sure you check in with your teacher or a homework buddy to obtain all missed work.
GRADING: Each assignment is worth a fixed number of points. Formative work will be 55% of the final grade. Summative work will be worth 45% of the final grade. We will have all assignment grades posted one week after the due date for review online. Please keep graded assignments in binder to compare and correct any grade issues.
GRADING SCALE: Each letter grade is worth the following:
F Below 60%
TRIMESTER CELEBRATIONS: Students whom have a 3.0 GPA (Grade Point Average) or higher and have NO office referrals will be eligible for the trimester activity. The first trimester ends November 9th, second ends on February 22nd and the third ends on May 22nd.
7th Grade, Classroom Behaviors
C.O.U.R.A.G.E: All students at Winograd are expected to show C.O.U.R.A.G.E. at all times. C.O.U.R.A.G.E. is an acronym for our behavior plan.
C.O.U.R.A.G.E. Awards: If adults in the building catch a student doing something good they may be rewarded with a C.O.U.R.A.G.E. Award. These should be turned in to the office for a chance to win a prize at our monthly drawings.
C.O.U.R.A.G.E. Forms: If a student displays minor behavior issues you can expect a C.O.U.R.A.G.E. Form to be sent home, signed, and returned upon the next school day. Usually, there will be a phone call home that accompanies this form.
Office Referrals: If a student receives up to three C.O.U.R.A.G.E. Forms or displays a major behavioral issue according to the school handbook an office referral may be written. A phone call home from the office and the teacher can be expected.
Progress Reports: Each student will get a hard copy of their grades on Wednesday of each week. Students will be expected to figure out their GPA and write two specific goals for the next week. Please review these progress reports at home.
AVID Binders: Each student will be given a free binder from the school. This binder is to remain in good condition throughout the year. If tampering occurs a $5.00 fee must be paid for each replacement binder needed.
