November 1, 2020 Parent Communication from Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch
After implementing a snow day this week, the District 6 leadership team has reviewed the district’s guidelines and procedures around closing schools because of bad weather. For several significant reasons, for the remainder of this school year we will not halt learning because of bad weather and will instead switch to remote learning when the weather conditions create a safety issue for travel. Students will meet with their teachers online for their regular school day if the weather is too bad to host in-person learning at our schools. Students who are learning online this year will continue as normal.

October 7, 2020 Parent Communication from Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch
As we enter the second quarter of school I want to provide some updates and additional information. I am so proud of the twenty-thousand plus students who have been actively engaged in learning either in-person, online, or in a hybrid schedule. This has been a very complex time, as we have opened schools for our community during a pandemic. Thank you for your support and patience these past several weeks. We opened and have remained open because of the hard work of our staff, the support of our community partners, and because of you and your children.

This week, we made the difficult decision to switch to remote learning for two of our elementary schools: Madison and Billie Martinez. I wanted to update you on this decision, provide you some important information and resources, and give you some guidance how you can help us keep schools open. I urge you to read this entire communication. It is important.

August 24, 2020 Parent Communication from Superintendent DR. DEIRDRE PILCH
Thank you for helping us have a successful first week of school and for continuing to trust us to serve your children's learning needs. While most of your children are coming to school in-person, we also know that some of you have chosen to have your children attend school through our online option. We are excited to have students in online or in-person school, and we want to thank you for partnering with us to get our students back to learning. We know there have been glitches for some families, but we will continue to work through those with you. This letter contains important information for families who are accessing both in-person and online learning. Please make sure you read the sections of this letter with information pertaining to your child(ren).

A Community Message from Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch on Black Lives Matter
It is impossible not to feel great anger and sadness at senseless loss of life. It is overwhelming. And yet, I believe there is hope to be found - hope that demands flexibility and openness where real change can occur and institutional racism can be addressed with courage and empathy. Schools must and will be an essential part of this change. This is a time to listen, learn and act, and a time to show great love and kindness.
