    Classroom Information

What a great productive week! Your children have been working incredibly hard and showing improvement in all areas of learning! Thank you for allowing me to be part of your child’s education!

Just a reminder, please have your children here on time daily at 8:20 as we get started right away after the bell rings. When your child comes in late they miss out on important learning opportunities.

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to come in and help out in the classroom. I still need more volunteers, so if you are available, please let me know!

    **Important**

Parent teacher conferences have arrived!  Parent teacher conferences will start this coming Thursday the 17th, and continue on Friday the 18th, and Tuesday the 22nd. You are receiving your conference confirmation slip. Please sign and return the slip as soon as possible. If the time and day don’t work, please leave me a note letting me know what time and day will work. Thank you!

Also…please check your child’s snack before sending it to school. NO PEANUTS PLEASE!

    Learning Focus

Writing: We have been studying the Author Donald Crews. We learned that he gets many of his story ideas from real life events he sees as he walks through his city drawing and taking pictures. We practiced walking outside our school and drawing what we saw, to give us some ideas of what we could write about.

Reading: Phonics skill: review of short and long vowels.

    Story: Big Red Lollipop

Comprehension strategy: Summarize: Tell the story in your own words using story structure and the most important parts.

Comprehension skill: Key Details: We are working on identifying the key details such as the characters, setting, and events to help us summarize a story.

Math: Our focus has been on solving addition and subtraction problems using a variety of strategies all based on knowing the base 10 system. Please help your child by practicing the combinations to 10. Ex: “I say 1, you say 9 to get to 10” Don’t forget to check out www.zearn.org and www.oakdale.k12.ca.us/ENY_Hmwk_Intro_Math  for help with the math homework.

Science: Air and Weather- We just began our weather unit this week.  Please talk about the weather with your child at home to encourage the use of vocabulary words such as meteorologist, weather report, and degrees Fahrenheit.

    T-Time

Today you will receive T-Time week 3 for September. Please make sure your child is reading at least 20 minutes each night. By the end of the week have the calendar filled out with the time your child read each night and the back side completed with genius sentences. Have your child return it to me on Friday for credit. Your child will not get credit for T-Time if the form is not properly filled out. I will accept T-Time if it is late, so please send in any T-time that you have at home!
