Leave of Absence
Employee Time Off
District 6 staff members have different short-term and long-term leave options depending on their position. Specific information on available options can be found in the handbooks for each employee group.
- Administrative/Professional Technical (administrators and other salaries employees): APT Handbook (page 21)
- Certified (teachers and other licensed employees): Certified Master Contract (page 21)
- Classified (hourly employees, support staff): Classified Employee Handbook (page 20)
Employees should use the appropriate software system for entering absences:
- Frontline/Absence Management for most school-based staff
- Employee Access for most non-school based staff

Employees should give at least thirty (30) days notice for an extended leave request if they know about it in advance. If the leave is not planned, the employee should request leave as soon as possible.

Sick Leave Bank
Sick Leave Bank is an optional benefit for District 6 employees that may provide additional time off if employees exhaust their accrued leave. The Sick Leave Bank paperwork process has very specific timelines. It is separate from the leave of absence paperwork and is the responsibility of the employee. Please complete and submit Sick Leave Bank paperwork to the appropriate contact on time so it will not negatively impact your paycheck.
APT and Classified Staff
APT and Classified employees can choose to join the Non-Teaching Sick Leave Bank at the time of their hire or during the first fifteen (15) days in January each year. Specific information about Non-Teaching Sick Leave Bank requirements and benefits can be found in the employee handbooks linked above. Requests forms should be submitted to Human Resources.
Certified Staff
All certified employees are automatically enrolled into the Certified Sick Leave Bank at the time of hire unless they choose to opt-out using the Certified Sick Leave Bank Opt-Out Form. Employees can join the Certified Sick Leave Bank during the first ten (10) working days of the school year. Specific information about Certified Sick Leave Bank requirements and benefits can be found in the Certified Master Contract on pages 26-27. Request forms should be submitted to and can be obtained from the Greeley Education Association (GEA) President (president@greeleyea.org or 970-353-4187).
FAMLI Leave
The Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program is an optional program that provides partially paid medical leave. It is run by the State of Colorado, not District 6. Employees who wish to take FAMLI leave must notify their supervisor and submit a Leave of Absence request to Human Resources as soon as possible, preferably at least 4 weeks before the intended start date of leave.
FAMLI is designed to run concurrently with FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act). FMLA provides job and benefit protection. If the employee is not eligible for FMLA or has exhausted the 12 weeks of FMLA leave, any remaining leave (FAMLI or any other leave) will be unbenefited. District 6 cannot pay employees on FAMLI leave while they are receiving pay from the State of Colorado.
