How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I try to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and balanced meals to make sure I hit my macros as I work toward losing 100 lbs. I also use a tracking app to stay consistent with my healthy eating goals and monitor my progress."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I get up at 4:30 AM to head to the gym, where I make sure to target every muscle group throughout the week. I also incorporate high-intensity cardio, which can include running, using the elliptical, or the stair stepper, among other exercises."
How about other wellness activities?
"I am cognizant of ensuring that I take time to spend with my family by going on walks with my wife, son, and our Pug. We also really enjoy going on bike rides together. Additionally, I make sure to go to bed early so that I can wake up early for the gym and maintain a healthy routine."
How are you a good role model?
"As an educator and leader, I understand that our job can be challenging, and we often face a wide range of situations. I strive to be a good role model by projecting a positive attitude and encouraging those around me. I remind myself and others that every problem or situation is an opportunity to be creative and find solutions while maintaining a positive mindset. This approach helps create a supportive environment for both students and colleagues, where we can NAVIGATE challenges together."
Please share any other accomplishments!
"In the last six months, I have gone from 330 lbs to 270 lbs, and I am well on my way to achieving my goal within the next six months if I stay consistent."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Based on my experience, my advice would be to focus on small, consistent steps, as they truly make a huge difference over time. Whether it's incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your meals, setting aside time for physical activity, or simply going to bed earlier, these small changes add up."
December 2024: Kristi Small from Meeker

Please share any other accomplishments!
"Completed 75 Hard, has competed in CrossFit competitions"
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Wellness doesn't have to be a lot of things all at once. You can just pick one focus and get really good at that before adding more things! Start simple so that you can feel successful."
August 2024: Conor Fitzpatrick from Jefferson Sr High
How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I keep an eye on what I eat and try to ensure I get enough protein everyday."

"I used to run a lot more and was able to run a half marathon in an hour and 40 minutes. Now I am much slower but get to see my lifts increasing most weeks."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Consistency. It is easy to get motivated for a week, but hard to stay motivated for a year. The consistency is where you see the most improvement."
September 2024: Charissa Bryce from Information Technology
How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I am obsessed with water bottles. I currently have two favorites that go with me everywhere - they keep my water crisp and cold so I can enjoy it all day long."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"In addition to going to the gym 4 times a week with my partner, I also bike to and from the grocery store. This gives me a little extra exercise, as well as limits the amount of groceries I can take home. I'm less likely to add impulse buys or food I don't need to my cart because I know I have to fit it all in my bike bags for the ride home."
How about other wellness activities?
"I regularly spend time outside so that I can have as much fresh air as possible. I spend time with my friends every other weekend so that my social needs are met. Conversely, I also spend at least one day a month just holding the couch down and not doing anything. My rest time is just as important to me as my active time."
How are you a good role model?
"I definitely am a role model based on how much water I drink daily. I have to ensure I don't over hydrate myself, so I do get myself a daily Dr. Pepper as a treat!"
Please share any other accomplishments!
"This year, I learned about the Polar Plunge in Fort Collins. My friends and I ran the 5K and then took the plunge into the frozen reservoir. The icy water was shockingly refreshing. I plan to do the race and plunge every year I can!"

How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I started a walking group with Shawsheen staff after school where we use MapMyWalk to walk the letters of the alphabet. It’s been fun! I have also had fitness instructors come to Shawsheen from Balanced Movement and Fit Body Boot Camp to workout with staff after school."
How about other wellness activities?
"I engage in self-care by having a teacher drawer at work with things that make me happy, such as teacher fidgets, German candies, and a disco ball diffuser. I also bullet journal and read books to keep my mind and heart happy."
How are you a good role model?
"I don’t know that I would call myself a good role model all of the time, since I am dealing with some physical health issues right now, but I do participate in weekly therapy, frequent exercise, and healthy eating. I destigmatize conversations around mental health by speaking about my own experiences and making resources available to staff as a blurb in the principal’s weekly newsletter that is sent out to staff. I believe in this quote from Taylor Swift, “Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can finally be free of it.” I set up 1:1 meetings with staff members to discuss their wellness needs and help them get access to resources they need without pressure. I participate in the sunshine committee and offer and carry out healthy ideas such as “shamrock charcuterie” to give staff nutritious options for staff appreciation days."

-Offering and carrying out healthy staff initiatives such as “Shamrock Charcuterie”
-Sending out a weekly newsletter blurb along with our staff newsletter so staff has ongoing access to the latest resources and initiatives
-Starting and continuing a staff walking club after school where we use MapMyWalk to walk the letters of the alphabet
-Being mentor/mentee with other wellness champs to sharpen my toolbox"
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"We can destigmatize mental health by talking about it! When one brave soul shares, others don’t feel so alone. When we normalize conversations about hard stuff, we take the first step to accessing the amazing mental health resources through our district. Then we become better and more successful teachers and leaders in school!
Create a teacher happy space at work! Even if it’s a drawer. Mine is filled with teacher fidgets like Crazy Aaron’s thinking putty, a 3D printed dragon, essential oils for my disco ball diffuser, my favorite candies, and a blanket. It helps me get through some of the tougher days!"
November 2024: John Miller from Maplewood
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"Being a PE teacher helps me to incorporate physical activity throughout the day by engaging with students. I also take time to participate in activates including riding my bike, paddle boarding, swimming and fitness classes."
How are you a good role model?
"I work to incorporate wellness in our school. I serve as the Staff and Student wellness coordinator. We participate in schoolwide programs including 5210+ and Kids Heart Challenge. I teach students to try new physical activities in engaging ways to give them the skills and knowledge to lead a healthy lifestyle."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Make the most of the wellness resources available through the district! I’ve personally benefited from Nice Healthcare for both physical and mental health support, and I’ve taken advantage of the district discount at VASA Fitness. The Worksite Wellness Program also hosts monthly competitions, along with numerous other resources designed to help you achieve and sustain a healthy lifestyle."

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I try to plan ahead for meals. I try to find ways to add as many vegetables to a meal as possible, spaghetti squash instead of pasta for example. I also do my best to not "drink my calories" by avoiding sugary drinks. (Morning coffee drinks are the hardest part of this!)"
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I aim for a solid hour of walking most days. There are lots of days I don't get that much, but if I aim for 60 minutes and only get 40, I've done better than if I aimed for 30 and got 30. I've also become a bird watcher, which makes my walks outside more interesting. I try to get my kids to come with me as well."
How about other wellness activities?
"I try to go to bed and wake up the same time, roughly, every day."
How are you a good role model?
"I started posting a picture of my walks, mostly pretty pictures of lakes and rivers. My friends and co-workers told me that they had started to look forward to seeing my posts, so I make sure now I find something interesting from my walk every to share with my friends."
Please share accomplishments!
"My current goal is to walk the entirely of the Poudre Trail, obviously not all at once. But I have completed the Weld section of the Poudre Trail from Island Grove to "Kodak Bridge," which is on the Greeley side of the Windsor section of the trail. I'm working on the Larimer County Poudre Trail, too."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"I would encourage anyone who wants to change to just do SOMETHING everyday. Starting is hard, and then keeping it up after the initial excitement is also hard. Just try to do more than yesterday and if you have a day that you don't get as much as you wanted done, give yourself a break and just start again tomorrow."
September 2023: Douang Reed from Administration
How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I eat alot my ethnic foods I cook. Sticky or steam brown and white rice also rice noodles. Add steam, grilled, or broiled protein, mostly chicken and tofu. Lastly got to have some steamed vegetables. If raw, my favorite is spicy green papya salad and cucumbers."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I walk after meals for 30-60 minutes each day. Family, my son, and husband encourage me to go downhill mountain biking. It's the best and most enjoyable time we would spend together."
How about other wellness activities?
"I like to cook. I would spend all day on a Sunday cooking and prep for the week so I can have enough time to walk or exercise and spend 2 hours sipping a cup of tea and crocheting before I go to bed."
How are you a good role model?
"I kept asking and encourage them to join me on a walk. I always take the stairs and encourage coworkers."
Please share any other accomplishments!

Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Just do it! Get off your chair and take a block or two."
October 2023: Erika McNichol from Administration
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I aim for 10,000 steps a day. I do this through walks, parking further away when we go out, walking laps around my living room, pacing while I'm on the phone, walking to the furthest restroom, walking to collegues' desks rather than calling or chatting, listening to music and dancing (badly), and finding ways to add steps into the process when cooking and cleaning."
How about other wellness activities?
"One of the best things I've done for my mental health is to cut out activities that aren't necessary that don't bring me joy."
How are you a good role model?
"I have high standards for myself and put out excellent work. The way I do that is by fitting breaks into my day so that my brain can be at its best. It is okay to take your breaks!"
Please share any other accomplishments!
"I was the kid in school who refused to run in PE. The year after I had my daughter, I completed a 7k race. Not only did I complete it, but I ran the entire time and finished in just over 45 minutes."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Do what is best for you in regard to eating, physical activity, and mental health. Sometimes that means eating a salad, and sometimes that means eating ice cream. Sometimes that means having a couch day, and sometimes that means a longer workout. Sometimes that means saying no to social activities, and sometimes that means organizing a party."
November 2023: Caitlyn O'Brien from Jefferson Sr
How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I try to incorporate veggies as much as I can and make sure I eat throughout the day. I learned the best way to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to not restrict your eating, but focus on moderation and adding to your meals. For example, if you are making taco bowls, add plenty of veggies like corn, avocado, onion, beans to make sure you'll be full when you are done eating. It's about balance and being kind to yourself."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I started going to Orange Theory a year ago after my grandfather's heart condition worsened. I wanted to take charge of my life, take pride in my appearance and give myself greater opportunity for an energized, active life."
How about other wellness activities?
"To maintain mental health I write poetry, listen to calming music, and talk to friends."
How are you a good role model?
"I encourage them to get out and do what makes them fell good. I invited some colleagues to try Orange Theory or join me for an upcoming 5k. On the mental health and wellness side, I try to own my emotions and practice forgiveness and patience."
Please share any other accomplishments!
"I completed my first 5k in October and I am doing my next one December 16th in Windsor!"
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Be kind to yourself. Progress is not linear. Take the time to establish one goal and focus your energy on that. Once that goal becomes routine or it's complete, pick a new one. Health and wellness is about doing the things that make us feel physically and mentally good for us - not others. Additionally, it's not about fitting into a box of society deems as "healthy" or "beautiful"."
December 2023: Sheal'est Lamb from McAuliffe

"While I try to make my mental health a priority, as a working mom of 3 kids who all play sports, some at the same time it is not always easy to focus on. However over the last few months my youngest has become a fan of yoga, so her and I will do yoga a couple nights a week which includes some breathing and meditation exercises! I also really enjoy sitting in my hot tub and relaxing after all my kids go to bed!"
How are you a good role model?

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"A few years ago, I started really looking at what I was eating and reading more labels. I don't eat red meat anymore and am very limited with other meats. March 2024: Jan Fairchild from Chappelow
How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I use a tracker to track my food intake each day to watch the nutritional value of my food choices, and then I try to keep a lot of healthy, easy to access snacks at home and at work (i.e. trail mix, healthy granola bars, fruit, etc.). My meals also cover the food groups with proteins, fruits and vegetables. I drink mostly water (and tea). I do allow a few foods to satisfy my sweet tooth, but I'm careful about portion control."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I have a step tracker and I try to get between 15,000 and 20,000 steps each day. I usually go on two walks a day (AM and PM), and usually put in a total of 5-8 miles per day. I also try to do some strength training, and swimming when time allows."
How about other wellness activities?
"I try to be outdoors as much as possible, especially in the summer. I spend a lot of time in my garden and yard which keeps me happy and grounded. I also spend as much time as possible with my grandkids who fill my heart to the top."
How are you a good role model?
"That is hard to answer as I don't know that I'm intentionally trying to be a good role model where health is concerned. I lead by example it seems since a co-worker nominated me for this honor."
Please share any other accomplishments!
"I have participated in several virtual challenges where we log our miles to earn medals. Many of these challenges are multi-mile. For example, one challenge was the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest, while another was a virtual trip through the Rocky Mountains spanning 130 miles. These challenges can be accomplished by a combination of walking miles, running miles, biking miles, and swimming miles. I typically do walking and running miles. I've completed a few local 5Ks. I've also completed the Broncos' 7K race for the last 5 years."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Any fitness activity is good for the body. Start slow and small and build up to longer, more difficult routines. If you are going for weight loss, that battle is won in the kitchen. Having a food tracker is very useful because you can see how many and which type of calories you are taking in each day compared to the calories you are burning. This has helped me lose the weight I wanted to and keep it off now for going on 9 years. Portion control is also good. You can still eat those foods you love to eat, just eat less of them. It's really about what makes you feel good about yourself. You are not in completion with anyone else. Your fitness journey is unique to you. Don't compare yourself to anyone else."
April 2024: Ryan Paul from Heiman
How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I make a smoothie of bananas, protein powder, and spinach most days at school. I juice vegetables every so often (beets, celery, apples, carrots) for a cleanse."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I love being active! I enjoy playing football with students at recess and in intramurals after school. This year, I have been dong Bikram Yoga in the mornings at Balanced Movement Yoga about three to four days a week. I help coach my son's soccer team and I enjoy playing with his team during practices. I also stay active at home by playing with my three children."
How about other wellness activities?
"I have begun to listen to my body and my mind a bit better. Typically, I just bulldoze through life without stopping. Now, when I think I need to take a break or space for myself, I have been giving myself permission to do so. I have started doing some meditation. I enjoy taking time to process things with my friends and my family. Finally, I enjoy opportunities to have fun and laugh with those around me."
How are you a good role model?
"I try my best to stay positive and encourage those around me."
Please share any other accomplishments!
"I climbed Mt. Rainer in a day. The trail is 14.9 miles roundtrip and 9,015 feet of elevation gain."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Many people have reminded me of these truths. Don't neglect yourself. If you need help, seek it. If you need to take time for yourself, do it. We can better help those around us by taking care of ourselves."
May 2024: Dan Goding from McAuliffe
How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"It's all about balance. Almost all of the meals I eat are prepared at home. I eat a lot of grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, carbs, and proteins. Just so I don't give too much credit to those and throw off the balance, I make sure to throw chocolate into the mix. I treat all foods with the respect they deserve."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"To me, this is the most important part of life! I have been competitively racing for the last 25 years. I run four to five days per week and ride one to two days per week. If there were more than seven days in a week, I'd toss in some weight training. Since there aren't, I only do weight training in my mind, which is probably the reason I look the way I do. I also enjoy incorporating backpacking and hiking into my lifestyle, as it allows me to actually see and truly appreciate what's around me."
How about other wellness activities?
"There is a huge correlation between my physical activity and my mental health. If I wasn't active, I would be a mess. The exercise and being outside is what keeps me sane and helps me feel great about life. Aside from this, frequent traveling, attending concerts/musicals and sporting events, and basically doing anything fun makes me super happy. Lastly, regularly hanging out with like-minded friends is such an important and necessary part of my life."
How are you a good role model?
"Well, I really try and set the example of living a healthy lifestyle. Staff and students alike see me running through the school on a daily basis, which may or may not make me a good role model. As the wellness person for our school, I promote and participate in every one of the staff wellness programs that our incredible D6 wellness team puts on. I also instill this lifestyle in the kids at our school by co-leading a running club, coaching our cross country team, eating/encouraging healthy foods in the classroom, drinking only water, walking/running to work, and requiring my students to do some form of daily activity (physical or otherwise) for homework."
Please share any other accomplishments!
"For eight years, I competed in triathlons of all distances. In 2006, I qualified for and raced the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. For the last 17 years, I've solely competed in running events, ranging from 5Ks to marathons, with over 20 marathons under my belt and a PR of 2:32. Along the way, I've won a race or two."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Be active! Go for walks, ride a bike, jump on a pogo stick, try a race, swim in a pool or lake (unless you don't know how to), hang out with friends, go places, etc. If you don’t like pogo sticking, practice yoga or meditation (two things of which I am terrible at). Basically, do things! And eat good food! Oh, and smile, laugh, and say hello to people when you walk by them on a bike path or sidewalk!"
June 2024: Joan Erickson from Jefferson High
How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I eat lots of vegetables and try to avoid sugar, but it doesn't always happen! I bring my lunch and it always includes a protein and fresh vegetables."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"Doing the 5210 Challenge each year is a "reset" for me. It reminds me that I feel much better when I take care of myself. Now I walk/job 2-3 miles on weekdays before school and 3-4 on the weekends. On most days, my partner and our dog come along which keeps me motivated."
How about other wellness activities?
"I always get eight hours of sleep each night and sometimes more! I'm working on drinking more water, but I'm not there yet. I spend time reading each night as my way to decompress, sometimes with a glass of wine but I probably shouldn't say that!"
How are you a good role model?
"I don't know that I am. We sometimes talk about food and exercise in our team, but everyone works hard at staying healthy so we're role models for each other!"
Please share any other accomplishments!
"I ran a marathon in just over five hours, which was great for me! I've climbed a couple of 14,000 mile-high peaks in the Rockies."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Don't compare yourself to others. Set goals that make sense to you and don't get discouraged when you "fall off the wagon.""

"The best way I have found to incorporate healthy eating into my workweek is meal prep. I grocery shop and prepare my breakfast and lunch meals for the week every Sunday. I love trying new recipes every week to find something that I really look forward to for breakfast and lunch."

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I incorporate eating healthy into my daily life by implementing a specific macronutrient meal plan that supports my personal goals related to weightlifting. I am planning on entering a powerlifting competition in Greeley next year. My score is a ration between my body weight and the amount that I can lift. I decided to create my own custom meal plan and adapted weight training programs from various sources to create a custom workout routine that has been supporting my powerlifting goals."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"My weekly routine consists of waking up at 3 a.m. two to three times a week for a full body workout that typically lasts about 1.5 hours. I mainly train with powerlifting exercises such as bench pressing, weighted deadlifts, pull ups, and squats. At home, my wife Nicole and I encourage our kids to engage in physical activity by taking walks and bike rides in our neighborhood during the summer and warmer time periods. Both of our daughters are involved in great gymnastics programs which they both really enjoy."
How are you a good role model?
"A lot of my diet involves me eating several meals throughout the day in school during my plan periods in between classes. This gives me an opportunity to not only lead by example with healthy eating but to answer questions that students may have about incorporating healthy foods into their diets. I always enjoy having in-depth conversations with students regarding their practices and what they do to condition themselves for their games. I also share with my colleagues my meal planning strategies as well as ideas of incorporating a fitness routine into a busy schedule."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"As I try to find the best way of managing my time with all of my responsibilities in life, I can attest to 3 important strategies regarding staying healthy. The first strategy I can share is to start small instead of trying to change your diet or fitness schedule overnight. One example is to find 1-2 days a week to wake up early to workout at home or at a gym. The second strategy is to have a partner that you share similar health goals with, whether that be your spouse or a significant other, a friend, or a family member. It's easy to start a routine or resolution but it is so much harder to stick to it. Having someone there to share your struggles with and to keep the accountability with is a major part of staying active! The third strategy is to work on finding purpose with your health related goals. Are you trying to be a good example for your kids? Are you trying to avoid a health complication that you are at risk for? For me, this realization came when I decided to enter the powerlifting competition. I had never been athletic in grade school or college and it was a new challenge for me to put a lot of dedication into fitness. Since the day that I have decided to enter the competition, everything from that point on related to diet and exercise seemed to have much more meaning because I wanted to maximize my chances of achieving my goals. Another motivating factor for this lifestyle is accepting that I am not immune to some of the medical conditions that have existed in my family including cancer, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol."
November 2019: Elsa Reza from Scott

I also love nature and will go for walks to break away from the noise and be still. I also enjoy learning about cooking and baking, I find myself getting lost in the moment and enjoying myself when creating recipes. Finally painting with music, allows me to incorporate my creative and innovative sides without thinking so much."

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"So, for the first 100 pounds or so that I lost, eating a "balanced" diet (i.e. indulging here and there but nothing too crazy) worked for me! After I hit the 100 pound mark, it was as if I got "stuck". This is where the importance of having an educated personal training coach was VITAL. I was discouraged but wasn't sure how to express my frustration. I was trying the best that I knew, but what had worked before was no longer working. I needed someone who knew better, and that's where Ryan and Chandler cam in. They had me track all of my nutrition for one week (i.e. no changes, just recording) and then analyzed my nutritional patterns and preferences. They then adjusted the recommended percentages and calorie intake from the default recommendations on the MyFitnessPal app that I was using. I saw changes almost immediately!
Over the last several months, it's been a struggle to hit their recommendations, but I'm getting better at it! For the month of April, their challenge to me was to remain within 90% of all macro and calorie areas for all areas (proteins/fats/carbs) and my calorie count for each day! So, far, I have met that goal every day!!! I truly eat whatever I want but I enter everything religiously and adjust the remainder of the day accordingly! If I'm planning a meal out, I try to guesstimate what I will eat ahead of time. I enter the nutation of that meal first and then tailor the rest of the day around it. Truly, I eat out so much less now because I am planning so intently.
Generally, I meal prep a week in advance but give myself wiggle room, as well. I used to be so intimidated by the whole "meal prep" scene because I thought that I would hate it and become bored quickly or feel restricted. On the contrary, within the framework of meal planning there is a lot of freedom, control, and power in having your nutritional intake organized and knowing that your body is getting what it needs!"
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I do what works for me with consistency and routine! Generally, I have four 30 minute personal training sessions, per week. My amazing trainers change up the workouts often and each day I walk into the gym not knowing exactly what to expect! However, I have full confidence that I will work hard and feel so much better afterwards! I am never disappointed! They make sure my full body is working hard and are consistently targeting my "problem areas" (my words; not theirs) in subtle and creative ways. I love that I am constantly learning new ways to challenge my body - and my mind! I've done so many things that I've thought I could never do!
This month, I have also added 1-2 additional "recovery" workouts, per week. The recovery workouts generally consist of a period of cardio ( I think of it as an extended "warm up") and then a period of extended stretching - it's like my own personalized yin yoga session! My muscles are growing and changing rapidly and I find that ample stretching is vital to reducing soreness and gaining flexibility!
Outside of the gym, I enjoy short hikes (I haven't tried anything too scary just yet - but I have my eye on those 14'ers!!!), walking my sweet dog, Maggie, and swimming in the summertime! My preschoolers also keep me moving throughout the school day!"
How about other wellness activities?
"In contrast to the hustle and bustle of energy that I expend throughout the week, I steal time away during evenings, early mornings, and weekends in order to "reset." I truly am an introvert at heart and re-energize from time alone. I enjoy quiet Saturday mornings; sipping coffee while cuddled with my pup, participating in weekly activities within my church community, occasionally getting a massage and/or mani/pedi, going shopping, watching college football in the Fall (Go Buckeyes!!!), cooking/baking, and chatting with friends and family back East."
How are you a good role model?
"This question is incredibly humbling. In fact, the notion that I would be a "role model" of health and wellness is a completely foreign concept to me! Honestly!! As I mentioned, I've struggled in this area my entire life. The concepts of "fitness" and "health" were completely intimidating. I did not grow up an athlete. In fact, I was generally the "fat girl" in class. I was bullied, overlooked, and thought of as "lazy" when that was the furthest thing from the truth. I feel confident that many of us who choose to work with children have had similar experiences or know someone who did. We want experiences for other children to be different. Better. Ad for students to know that they are loved and accepted just as thy are. I sincerely hope that my story will encourage others to TRY to be BETTER. It does not happen overnight and, as Ryan likes to remind me often, the key to success is "consistency over time."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"As teachers and caregivers, we are often compassionate and self-sacrificing to a fault. Be kind to yourself. Give yourself grace. If you’ve had disappointing or hurtful experiences related to health or fitness in the past, don’t let those setbacks define your future self! Take a chance on something new! If you’re making gains on your goals, KEEP GOING!!! If you’ve hit a setback, be kind to yourself and give yourself time. My hope for every D6 employee would be that each one take some time this summer to intentionally set goals for better health and then take action in order to make those goals a reality.
Recently, I hit a plateau and was feeling very “stuck”; despite doing everything “right.” I came across the following quote, and it has stuck with me:
A river cuts through rock, not because of its power, but because of its persistence. ~Jim Watkins
My challenge to D6 employees? BE. THE. RIVER. For your families, your students, your friends, and most of all, yourself."
Any accomplishments you would like to share?
"I have struggled with the concept of health and fitness (i.e., the vicious cycle of weight gain/loss/regain) my entire life. Several years ago, I experienced some very difficult personal circumstances that forced me to do a more serious examination of my life, overall. I decided that, despite tragedy (and perhaps, because of it), I wanted to become BETTER, every day, and I began making a concerted effort to address the areas of my life that needed the most attention. At that time, I weighed 425 pounds and was in the worst shape of my life.
Beginning in early 2015, I returned to gym life with the hope that I could improve my condition on my own. At that time, I was teaching in Virginia and I began going to a local recreation center before school a few days a week. Although I had made some progress, within a few months, I realized that I was going to need more help in order to accomplish my goal. The constant early-morning cardio was TORTURE, and I found myself falling asleep on the stationary bike!!!
And so, in April 2015, I went to my doctor and requested a referral to the P.R.E.P. program at a local gym. This Physician Referral Exercise Program served to offer a short-term, discounted rate for folks who needed the assistance of a Personal Trainer in order to improve their health. This was my first experience with using a Personal Trainer, and, initially, it took me a little time to come around to the idea. The program was short term and so, after a couple of months, the training discontinued and I began going on my own.
I remained at that gym until I moved to Colorado in August of 2017. Over the course of those two years, I lost roughly 50 pounds. After moving to Colorado, I immediately began seeing positive changes in my health and I STRONGLY desired to make additional changes so that I could take advantage of all that this beautiful area has to offer! Between August and December 2017, I dropped about 30 pounds. In January 2018, I joined a gym in FOCO and began training with a great trainer 1x per week. I dropped another 20 pounds or so by summer 2018; placing me at an overall loss of 100 pounds!!! I was feeling stronger and EXCITED about my progress. I returned back East for most of last summer and quickly began to see setbacks, once again. When I returned to Colorado in August, I had regained a portion of that 20 pounds and was feeling a little frustrated with myself but ready to get back to work!!!
I moved away from FOCO in September and decided that a gym closer to Greeley would be most ideal for me. I was also ready to WORK and to really COMMIT to my next chapter of better health! That’s when I discovered NOCO Fitness in Greeley and began Personal Training sessions after school 4x per week with Chandler and Ryan. Since my first consultation with Ryan in September 2018, I knew that I had found the place and trainers who would REALLY help me! And yet, I was hesitant to commit for too long (after all, I had to make sure it was a good fit, right?!). Initially, I signed up for 3 months and renewed for another 6 months in January 2019!
Since joining the NOCO Fitness family last October, I have lost over 50 pounds and 21 inches overall in just six months!!! I am now down 135 pounds—86 of which I have lost since moving to Colorado! I am STRONGER and HEALTHIER than I have EVER been!!! Every day I am seeing changes and the growth and progress (as well as the encouragement of my amazing trainers and friends) encourages me to KEEP GOING!!!
When I began this fitness chapter, the primary goal was to become BETTER. And now, four years and 135 pounds later, the goal remains the same. Except now, instead of operating from a defensive standpoint, I am operating from an offensive standpoint. I am feeling more empowered and creating my own goals outside of the gym. For instance, I am recruiting a team of ladies from NOCO Fitness to participate in the Wonder Woman 5K in Denver this summer! I am also hoping to get back into bike riding (something that I loved doing as a kid!) and even try my hand at horseback riding and skiing/snowboarding! I am excited to see what the future holds!"

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I really don't do anything super special in terms of diet. I try to eat a good balance of protein, fruits and vegetables and carbs. When possible, I prefer to eat 5-6 small meals per day rather than 2-3 large meals. I try not to overeat and try to eat my bigger meals earlier in the day. I drink lots of water...a half gallon or more per day. I supplement my diet with protein and other vitamins when I am training hard. I also try to limit sweets and simple carbs, although, I have to admit, I love chocolate...it's my weakness."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I don't think of it as incorporating physical activity into my life...being physically active to me is more of a way of life, part of who I am. I love it. So, I naturally do some sort of exercise or physical activity almost every day. I go to the gym 2-3 times per week, and when the weather permits I ride bikes (road and mountain) almost daily. To make this easier, I often keep one of my bikes at school and jump on it right after work. On weekends, I often head to the mountains to hike, camp, mountain bike, or rock climb. I really just like being outside."
How about other wellness activities?
"To me, living a healthy lifestyle is all about balance. I try to live my life with the eyes and curiosity of a child. I'm always looking for new adventures and experiences, not just exercise. I consider life a journey not a destination, I try to fill it with a wide range of experiences. I like to travel and explore new places, meet new people, read, learn new things, garden, do projects, motorcycle ride, camp, and sometime just hangout and have some stimulating conversation. Life is meant to be shared, so shared experiences with friends and family is an important part of that balance."
How are you a good role model?
"Role model...hmmmm...well I try to be. I think it's important to be the person you portray yourself to be. I try to live with a growth mindset and encourage others to do the same. I work hard to be a glass half full type of person. I have coached young athletes for most of my life and I try to encourage others to get active and to exercise. I have helped organize many group activities, such as the group rides, hikes, and the Bike Club we have at Central from time to time. I think it's important to accept people for who they are and where they are at in their fitness journey and support them in moving towards their goals."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Advice...I suppose my best advice would be to just get out there and live. Life is short and precious, and it goes by way too fast. Don't wait, don't be afraid to make a change, and don't make excuses...there is too much out there to do and too much to experience to spend a lot of time sitting around as a couch potato. Life begins outside your comfort zone...go for it. Cheers."
Any accomplishments you would like to share?
"I've been a competitive athlete most of my life and still seek out opportunities to complete in various things. I started competing in HS and really haven't stopped. I was an All-American in the decathlon for the University of New Mexico and competed in the 1984 Olympic Trials. Recently, I have been in to bike racing. For the past three summers. I have raced in the Gold Rush Gravel Grinder, a 72 mile race on dirt forest service roads in Spearfish, S.D. Last year, I got 12th out of 118 competitors, 5th in the 40 and over age group, finishing in 4 hrs. 45 min."

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"Last year, I joined weight watchers. It's really helped me be more mindful about my food choices. The program is great because you still get to eat the things you love, but with the points system you have to decide whether or not it's worth it."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"My job as an IFL teacher makes me very active during the day. It's not unusual for me to have over 10,000 steps by the end of the school day. I also enjoy going for walks with my wife, daughter and 4 dogs."
How about other wellness activities?
"It's important to do things that relax and rejuvenate yourself on a daily basis. I love to read and it's a way for me to unwind. I also love going to games at CSU (Volleyball and Women's basketball). Go Rams!"
How are you a good role model?
"After I started losing weight on the weight watcher program, other people at school started noticing the changes. I encouraged many people at my building to try the program out. I believe we have a fairly large group of people who are now doing it! It's so much easier to stay on track when you have support among your co-workers and friends."

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"Healthy eating has become second nature to me. At the start of my weight loss journey, it was absolutely difficult to choose vegetables over chocolate. However, with everything, after time it became second nature. I feel better when I eat better, so I ensure that I always have something healthy with me. Keeping things like protein bars and organic trail mix with me at all times helps eliminate the urge to stop at a fast food restaurant or gas station."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
" I run 5 days a week in addition to kickboxing and yoga once a week. Physical activity come in many forms. I race my students at recess or play with them every day."
How about other wellness activities?
"I am a SCUBA diver and avid hiker. Healthy to me also means taking time for myself. I set a goal to read one non academic novel a month, which helps me stay balanced."
How are you a good role model?
"I encourage my students to eat healthy and stay active. If I have a student that is not showing interest in playing, those are the ones I will usually start a game of basketball with. I am also acutely aware they are watching the choices I make, so I don't keep junk food in my room nor do I bring it for lunch."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"I have learned that it is so important to have self forgiveness. It is of course better to choose carrots over candy; but we are all humans, and it will happen. That candy may offer more emotion benefits at that moment. Everything is about balance and moderation!!"

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"If I eat fresh foods more often and keep the less healthy foods at a minimum, I eventually will crave the healthy meals over the alternative. The opposite is also true. Also, if I don't show some level of consciousness in the teachers' lounge, I can easily overdo it with the treats. So, I do my best to eat fresh foods during the week and keep the burgers and pizza for the weekends - moderately, of course."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"If i don't make time to exercise, it won't happen. I'm up at 4:00 am and at the gym by 5:00. I add variety which includes vinyasa yoga, cardio, and strengthening. Weekends include biking or hiking, because adding an inspiring environment helps keep my mind off the "work" in the workout. If I'm off my normal routine, I still incorporate some activity, no matter how small. In the words of Brene Brown, "The 20 minute walk we take is better than the 4 miles we didn't run at the gym.""
How about other wellness activities?
"A healthy mind is just as important to me as a healthy body, which is why I've incorporated mindfulness in my life. Daily meditation directly influences my stress level, my relationship with others, and my teaching ability. It helps me respond rather than react, empathize with others, and appreciate the many gifts in my life."
How are you a good role model?
"Teaching already has its challenges and hardships, so the last thing my school needs is unnecessary drama and negativity from me. I stay positive, own my mistakes, help others when I can, and don't avoid tough conversations. Professionalism mixed with humor and camaraderie goes a long way!"
Any accomplishments you would like to share?

As part of the Attitudes of Gratitudes 10-Day Gratitude Journaling Challenge, participants were asked to share their gratitude stories. Over 40 amazing stories were submitted! The worksite Wellness Committee chose to feature Kaitlyn's story.
"Over the past few months, I have been struggling with postpartum depression. My weight has not changed during this time and I have struggled with being away from my son. Throw in a tougher group of students and this is a recipe for a rough year. But my husband has been super supportive and has been asking me to tell him every day what I am grateful for or for something that I like about myself. It was embarrassing being coached by my spouse on being happy so I often did not meet his challenge. But with this journal, I found some inner peace. I was able to document the things I love and appreciate without feeling pressured to do so. It allowed me to remember all of the daily present things in my life that I often take for granted. I challenged myself to look for three different things every day and would not repeat any during my ten days. I also challenged myself to look for something at work, at home, and within myself to be grateful for. At times, it was difficult, But as I went through the challenge, I began to recognize the meaningful moments in all of the stress and chaos. I listed seemingly innocuous things like Reeses's, homemade soup, and my hour long drive (for some personal time). But I also listed some things that were unique to that day like my club's end of the year picnic or taking a hike and seeing a doe and her fawn.
Through this challenge, I have genuinely began to feel better. I still have a long way to go but I plan on continuing to use the journal to help remind myself every day of the beautiful moments that I get the pleasure of experiencing."

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I utilize the "My Fitness Pal" application to track my calories. I find doing this makes eating a 250 calorie Snicker bar more difficult. Especially when it's the difference between eating the chocolate or eating dinner. When you start looking at food this way, you find yourself making better decisions about what you eat. Healthy eating follows suite in regards to cutting out more carbs, bad fats, and sugars because those are the foods that usually put you over your calorie intake for the day."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I do this two ways, I set personal goals for myself and make physical activity a family event. On evenings we are not taking our son Michael to swimming practice, Misty and I along with Marcus and Mikey go on a three to four mile walk in the evenings. We have recently made long distance biking the norm on the weekends as well.
As far as personal goals go, I always try to run faster and further than before. At the start of my journey to better health, I was running a mile at 4.5 mile pace. I would run one mile then walk the next. Since March of last year, I have increased this to being able to run a mile at 6 mile pace, upwards to four miles. I am now training fro my first 10K that will take place in Estes Park this summer.

"I make sure to always maintain a positive outlook. There are numerous things in this life that can get you down, or irritated. Life is much too short to dwell on or allow these things to affect your mood. Your outlook on life's curveballs is a choice, and we can all choose to be positive and roll with them."
How are you a good role model?
"Maintaining my positive outlook, I find it to be contagious. When you're happy, the people around you are happy. You can change a person's bad day into a good day with a smile and kind words.
Giving advice when asked, if someone asks about your diet and/or exercise regimen, let them know, and wrap it up in positivity. make sure they know you believe they can achieve a healthy lifestyle as well."
Any accomplishments you would like to share?
"The most recent accomplishment I have is a family related one. Just this pas weekend, we completed our first thirty mile bike ride. We rode from the Family Funplex in Greeley to Eastman Park in Windsor, then back again. This was the furthest any of us had ever rode.
I participated in the "Beyond the Start 5K" hosted by Scott Elementary School on April 7th. I finished 1st in my age group with a completion time of 26:07 and 11th overall."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"Don't turn a bad day into a bad week, missing a day at the gym or eating too many unhealthy snacks is not going to undo all that you have accomplished. Stay strong and get back on the wagon, reach the goals you have set both short and long-term."

I started this year at 320 pounds with 52 inch waist I am now ready to drop to 46 inch waist. I am currently 294 pounds. My end goal is 240 pounds."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"First thing you have to do is decide what you want. Second thing set a goal along with an action plan to get there. Third, you need support so share your goal with people who will hold you accountable. Fourth thing make it fun or you won't do it. If you fall off, don't beat yourself up just start again. I love to go get hot lunch with the kids and load up on fruits and vegetables and rave about the food they make in the cafeteria. "I am always adjusting the way I am eating based on the way I feel. Don't get me wrong, I will treat myself now and then with something I don't typically eat during the week. I also meal prep all of my food for the week. Saturday, I develop a plan of what I want to eat and a grocery list. I then go Saturday night and cook on Sunday. I try to watch all of the things I eat to help fill me throughout the day and help me with my workouts in the mornings and at nights."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I am always physically active. I have a hard time taking rest days. I go to the gym in the morning with my boyfriend to do some cardio. Then at nights, I go to Crossfit to get in another workout with more weights and cardio combined."
How about other wellness activities?
"I have a lot of energy. With that energy, I have a hard time sitting on the couch for too long. I usually get up and go places just to get myself moving. I also love playing with my dog so when I need to get out some energy, I usually find ways to play with her."
How are you a good role model?
"As a kid, I battled weight and self esteem. As I got into college, I developed eating disorders to help myself feel better about the way I looked and the way I felt. With these eating disorders came a lot of stress and self esteem concerns. When I started Crossfit is when I really started to change my mindset. I think just being able to show that one can change their mindset and that it is a struggle but it is possible and a constant process."

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"If there is an area of health and wellness in which I struggle, it is with healthy eating. I have to work hard in this area. To incorporate healthy eating into my lifestyle, I keep the 5210 in my brain...I am conscious of my fruits and veggies intake and count daily, I think about my drinks. I also try to live by the motto, "Everything in moderation." So that I don't get overwhelmed with guilt should I accept a treat at school or eat a lunch that I shouldn't."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I coach running groups and health/wellness groups at Scott Elementary, as well as running in groups in the community. Through this, I get many hours of physical activity, not only running, but also activities like yoga, jumping rope, and other fun activities."
How about other wellness activities?
"The coaching I do is the most "bucket-filling" and mentally healthy thing I do. It may also be the most important work I do. The mini-lessons on eating well, reading food labels, sugar, and physical activities are amazing, but it's the mental well-being (social and emotional mini-lessons, self-care lessons, mindfulness, etc.) that keeps me,a nd the students I reach, on the right track the most."
How are you a good role model?
"I am a role model for students throughout Bstrong Bfit and running groups, both at school and in the community. I not only teach the social/emotional mini-lessons but I also model constantly and point out the power of positive thinking. I hold Positive Power lunch bunches, and I ask the students to share out after practices what thought processes they noticed they had and any positive changes they made."
Any accomplishments you would like to share?
"I have run many 5k races, and sometimes win my age category. More importantly, I am out there showing that one doesn't have to be a future Olympian to enjoy an active lifestyle. We don't have to see ourselves as athletes to be able to get out there and participate, and enjoy the sense of accomplishment that crossing the finish line brings." Kim (far right in photo) won an orchid after this 5K!

I eat granola with yogurt for a snack and a fruit for dessert. I have a young daughter and am teaching her how important it is to eat healthy so she does not have digestive problems that will harm her later in life."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"Every day is an opportunity for a new activity. As a Physical education teacher, I work with and demonstrate how to do different skills in class all day. As a person, I run 2 to 4 miles every morning at 5am with my mom who rides her bike next to me to help keep me at pace. I do at least one 5k run a month and am currently in the middle of a 6 pack series that increases distance every race every two weeks. I have done runs in both Disneyland and Disney World, and did 4 Color Runs last year that were amazing and would highly recommend them. I teach water aerobics twice a week during the school year at the warm water pool and another 3 days a week outside during the summer. I do Zumba on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Soccer practice falls on Monday and Thursdays where I coach the 3rd and 4th grade team for their game on Saturday afternoons. Skating comes Saturday morning with my little girl. Then on Sunday, after my morning run, I rest for the next week's activity."
How about other wellness activities?
"I volunteer coach and do room mom duties at our elementary school. I go to church every Sunday and help make and deliver meals for people from church who are having a rough time. We go out to the farm and help my folks clean up every month and every weekend all summer to help plant and harvest the gardens. I visit my two 80 year old grandmas and take them to get their toe nails done so they have something nice to look forward to and get out of their homes. I spend time jumping on the trampoline with my kid or riding our horses or walking the dogs just to make some memories and get some time together. At least once a year, we go to Disneyland or Disney World for a vacation and family time together."
How are you a good role model?
"I live the way I ask them to live. I don't smoke or drink and have never tried any drugs. I go to work, work out, go to church, and focus on my family. I encourage others to live a healthy lifestyle and follow up with them to see if I can support them in doing just that. I get my work done as quickly and completely as possible, and have fresh grades in at least once a week. I check in with my students and staff and administration just to see how things are going. If I mess up, I do everything I can to fix it and apologize quickly when necessary. I also forgive quickly and try to find the good intention in what people say."
Any accomplishments you would like to share?
"I have done runs in Disney World and Disneyland, I prefer Disneyland you get to run through the park. Last year, I did 20 different 5k runs and the Bolder Boulder 10k and Colder Boulder 5k. I did 4 color runs. One of them was a black light run all super fun. I am signed up for my 3rd 10 mile bike race to benefit the elderly. I am starting my 6th year of coaching my daughter's team, and my 22 years of coaching other youth teams and high school overall. Growing up, I played soccer at the highest levels. I was on the National team from 14 to 18 and placed on the Olympic development team. I was all conference in High School and one of the leading scorers at Lakewood High School as a sophomore, and the youngest player there to get a first team all-conference award. I was all conference first team in volleyball and track and went to state in both sports. I played soccer and started as a true freshman for UNC and was All-American there as well as one of the top ten leading scorers of all time. My juggling record is 1463 without the ball touching the ground, it took almost 2 hours. I water skied and snow skied. My whole life has been dedicated to sports and being fit, and now teaching our youth how to be fit so they can compete at any level they want with the right desire, skill, and determination."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"My advice would be and is that it is never too late to start to be healthy. Get a buddy that you can motivate and one that keeps you motivated and check in with each other often. Take baby steps and if you fall, get up and get back on your routine and get going again. Do it for you and be happy, you will feel better after you have accomplished each stem of your goal."

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I love eating healthy! My husband and I try to eat well as much as we can. We keep our fridge full of fresh fruits and veggies. We also try to make as many meals from scratch as we can to avoid the sugar and salt that comes with pre-packaged meals. Every little choice helps :)."

How are you a good role model?
"In our office here at Monfort, I'm always talking to people about different recipes I've tried or asking about healthy snacks that other women are eating. We also often discuss current exercise programs that we are all doing. The more we all talk about it, the more we can hold each other accountable. Plus, I love the Wellness Program that we have in this district, so I'm always encouraging other staff members to do the challenges. They help motivate us all to get up and move!"
Any accomplishments you would like to share?
"Some accomplishments that I"d love to share would be that I've had the opportunity to hike seven 14ers now (four in one day!). I'm not a very good runner, but I did run the district's 5k last year without stopping to walk at all (that was a big personal goal of mine) and placed 200 out of 800. We'll see what this new year brings as far as more accomplishments to add!"
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"My advice would be that every little choice helps. Saying no to a donut is hard in the moment, but so worth it in the end. Getting up early to work out really is tough, but the energy and feeling of accomplishment you get afterwards make you want to do it again the next day! You don't have to eat nothing but celery all day long to live a healthy lifestyle :) it's the choices you make throughout your day that get you the results you are looking for. Plus, it's never too late to change and start living right."

How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"This month as I celebrate another milestone birthday, I have come to realize (with a lot of help from my family) that eating healthy requires a balance, in what I eat, drink, and the amount of physical activities I include in my daily routine. Being more aware of what and when I eat is what really helps me to achieve my balance."
How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"I hate to exercise...but I love to be involved in physical activities. So I try to combine my physical actions into as much as possible. Visiting with family and friends is so much more enhanced on a walk than sitting around in the living room. A bike ride to the Poudre Learning Center in the morning is such a great way to start my day."
How about other wellness activities?
"I am fortunate to be surrounded by creative, curious learners, both at home and at the Poudre Learning Center which are constantly challenging me to improve my work/life balance. As passionate Environmental Science Educators, it is very easy to over extend ourselves at the PLC. We all are striving to be at that work/life balance which will allow us to continue our passion in getting kids to investigate the outdoors."
How are you a good role model?
"My wife, Debbie and daughter, Amber are such great role models and mentors of healthy living habits for me at home, that I just try to reflect their encouragement and advise to the staff and visitors to the Poudre Learning Center. The folks at the PLC are all great at encouraging healthy eating habits by brining fresh fruits or whole food meals or snacks. As a PLC team, we all try to participate in the Greeley Schools Health Fair and compete in the Weigh Off challenge over the holidays."
Any accomplishments you would like to share?
"Helping to provide a positive environment and great learning experiences for the staff and visitors to the Poudre Learning Center is also at the top of my list of healthy living accomplishments."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"I can still hear my late Mother telling me, 'Get up and get outside." Very sound advice for us all. Get out and take a few deep breathes by the river, feel the sun on your face and soon your stress will be soothed by the sounds of nature around you. Make an effort to immerse yourself in nature more than you are in technology. Find activities you like to do outdoors with family and friends like gardening, fishing, hiking, biking or even volunteering at the Poudre Learning Center. You will find you'll know more about who you are when you know more about where you live, work, and play."
March 2014: Karen Giesler from Franklin
How do you incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle?
"I'm a firm believer in "eating clean". I eat minimal processed or packaged food, and I incorporate whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean meats into my meals. How do you fit physical activity into your lifestyle?
"Physical activity has been a part of my daily lifestyle for the last 10 years...since I started running. Right now, I'm rehabbing plantar fasciitis in my left foot, but I usually workout in the mornings with a variety of activities. How are you a good role model?
"I try to be a good role model by example. I don't drink sugary drinks (I don't even like them actually) in front of students. I consistently pack my lunch and drink my water religiously. I can't tell you how many times I've had a student find my water bottle and bring it to me because I might "dehydrate"."
Any accomplishments you would like to share?
"My biggest accomplishment to date is running the Boston Marathon in 2013. Runners have to qualify for the marathon, so it was a goal I had been working on for about 3 years. My goal for the year is to run the Boulder Marathon and also complete my personal trainer certification."
Any advice for other D6 employees?
"My biggest advice to other D6 employees is to eat healthy and incorporate whole (unprocessed) foods as much as possible. Ninety percent of how you feel and look is based on your diet and many healthy and medical needs could be eliminated by just controlling what you eat."
