Dear Weld County Commissioners, City of Greeley, Downtown Development Association, and Richmark Properties, Inc.,
The Greeley-Evans School District 6 Board of Education, an elected seven-member volunteer Board, is proud to serve 23,000 students and nearly 3,000 staff members. Our mission, as outlined in the District 6 strategic plan titled Innovation2030, is “District 6 engages every student in a personalized, well-rounded and excellent education, preparing students to be college and career-ready.” We are committed to ensuring our students are ready to serve the communities of Greeley and Evans as employees, employers, business owners, philanthropists, volunteers, consumers and most importantly, participating citizens of our community.
We know that a healthy public education system helps create a healthy community, and we know public education can not be healthy without strong community partnerships.
District 6 has a unique opportunity to be part of a history-making partnership with the City of Greeley and Weld County that could result in badly-needed facility upgrades for each of our entities, all while contributing to the economic health of our downtown Greeley center. The plan developed by Richmark Properties, Inc. gives us the opportunity, through land swaps and collaboration, to create a welcoming, structurally sound, safe and healthy place for the 130+ employees in our administration facilities.
Downtown Greeley has supported our educational mission in District 6 in many ways, including the annual District 6 Arts Walk, which features art and musical performances by District 6 students; opportunities for students to perform at Friday Fest and other events; providing internship opportunities; working with horticulture students at Greeley West to install landscaping and much more.
We, the District 6 Board of Education, support the Richmark plan and sincerely hope that it will move forward with the support of the Weld County Commissioners and the City of Greeley. We believe a strong downtown is key to the economic and social success of Greeley and are committed to keeping our administration building in the area.
Thank you for your consideration,
The Board of Education, Greeley-Evans School District 6
