D6 Athlete of the Week: Aaniya Davis, Greeley Central High School

"Aaniya Davis is the kind of player who changes the game the moment she steps onto the pitch - fast, fearless, and always one step ahead. Whether it's chasing down a loose ball or creating an opportunity out of nothing, she never backs down from a challenge. Every opposing coach and player knows who #20 is and the impact she brings to the game. Her talent, athleticism, speed, agility, and physicality set her apart. While off the pitch, she is just as impactful - respected, well-liked, and a true teammate who lifts everyone around her. Aaniya Davis is the kind of player every team and coach is lucky to have." - Shannon Segovia, Soccer Coach

"I'm most proud of earning All Conference for both soccer and basketball because it reminds me of how hard I work since I am always hard on myself."

What's one goal you're currently working towards in your sport?

"One goal I'm currently working for myself is to build myself to become a better athlete and leader through my team."

Describe your worst sports performance. What did you learn from this experience?

"My worst performance in both sports is when I would always overcompensate, and I would tend to be impatient and mess myself up. I would have to take a deep breath and understand that I have a team that's always there and that I don't need to do it all myself."

Who are your role models in your sport or life, and how have they influenced you?

"My role models are my parents because I look up to them in any athletic aspect. They are who shaped me as an athlete and as a person. They influence me to become my very best in life and that I can get through any challenges."

How do you balance sports with other responsibilities like school or work?

"I make sure that I spend most of my time on my school work during the day and planning out what I can get done throughout my day, so I wouldn't have to worry about it during games or practices."

What are your career or college plans after you graduate high school?

"I am planning on attending Oklahoma Wesleyan University and continuing soccer while also majoring in construction management."

What advice do you have for younger athletes who want to join your sport?

"Don't hold yourself back from trying. You'll be a part of a family that will always have your back."

Do you have any funny pre-game rituals or superstitions that you stick to?

"From feeling nervous, I would always play "Nothin on You" by Bruno Mars & B.O.B. all throughout the morning and throughout the day. I also would do a couple sprints a couple minutes before the game, put ointment on my muscles, and always get the green Gatorade."

If you were to participate in a talent show unrelated to your sport, what would your act be?

"Dance fighting, but I would have to be with a partner."
