D6 Athlete of the Week: Bailey McGeen, Northridge High School

"Bailey is an excellent example of a highly successful student athlete. One that leads by example, not only in her sports, but also in the classroom. For our team, she does everything we ask of her, and does it with a great attitude. She has stepped into a leadership role this year, being voted as one of our team captains and has excelled in that. She is everything you want in a student athlete." - Dan Beck, Coach

What are your goals for this season?

"My goal for this season is to advance beyond the regular season and make it to postseason."

Who are your role models in your sport or life, and how have they influenced you?

"My parents are my role models in life because they've been by my side 24/7, and haven't missed one of my games. My coaches are also my role models because I've had the same two coaches all four years. I'm lucky enough to experience a steady program that they've built."

How do you manage the balance between academics and athletics? What strategies have been most effective for you?

"Managing the balance between academics and athletics, I focus on prioritization and tackle the harder tasks I have in school first, so that any task after that seems a bit more reasonable. And, keep working my way through them."

How do you handle pressure and maintain mental resilience during high-stakes competition?

"Every time I feel pressure, I maintain mental resilience by telling myself that people are wanting to be in the position I'm in right now. So, I better make the beset of it, and remember I'm lucky enough to be in this moment."

What are your career or college plans after you graduate high school?

"After I graduate high school, I will attend CSU to study exercise science and pursue a career in physical therapy."

What advice do you have for younger athletes who want to join your sport?

"'What's the worst that can happen?' You get to build numerous relationships, learn lifelong skills, and overall learn that you have another whole family behind you."

Do you have any funny pre-game rituals or superstitions that you stick to?

"Before my games, I make it a priority to eat Jolly Rancher Sour Gummies. On the way to my game, the first song I have to play is "Pick Up the Phone" by PAWSA."

If you were to participate in a talent show unrelated to your sport, what would your act be?

"I would probably be a solo air drummer or air guitarist. I haven't made up my mind yet."
