Greeley West High School Student Council receives 2025 National Gold Council of Excellence Award
Congratulations to the Greeley West High School Student Council for being awarded the 2025 National Gold Council of Excellence Award!
The National Student Council created the National Council of Excellence award program to recognize student councils across the nation who practice exceptional leadership, service, community engagement, and student voice.
Our Spartan leaders have worked diligently creating innovative ways to unify their large, diverse student body. The Spartan Choice Awards assembly has become an uplifting student and staff favorite, showcasing clubs, departments, classes (freshman - senior), retirees, and a Rising Phoenix who has exhibited a year of growth.
Around 40 students participate in the student council elective class, and are led by a school elected Executive Board consisting of President Maikai Mireles, Vice-President Madison Vella, Sargent of Arms Annalyn Parker, Treasurer Reymundo Ocampo-Flores, Communications Liaison Cody Gesick, and Secretary Diana Kudo. President Mireles joined student council out of a desire to "be a beacon for people", to create more opportunities for students to participate in community outreach, and to move away from the stereotype that STUCO is only involved in dances and assemblies. The GWHS Student Council is breaking that stereotype!
This year, the council led a Middle School Leadership Day for all D6 middle school students. The leadership seminar focused on creating middle school leaders who are confident and will make positive contributions in their communities. The council also focused on campaigns that would increase student body participation and benefit the Greeley-Evans community. Through their Dodge Hunger Dodgeball Tournament, the students raised over $600 and filled two barrels with canned goods for the Weld Food Bank. Over the past two years, the council has developed a comprehensive communication plan that actively promotes their athletic teams, important dates, clubs, and day-to-day student life.
