Legislators, Business Leaders Tour Jefferson High and CTE Center

Wednesday morning, a large group of Colorado business leaders and state Legislators visited Jefferson High School at the Career and Technical Education Center as part of the Colorado Competitive Council’s Basecamp Program.

The visit was initiated by State Sen. Scott Bright, of Senate District 13, which represents most of Greeley. Bright is a member of the Council, and wanted to showcase a Greeley school during the group’s two-day visit to Weld County. As many of you know, Sen. Bright is the owner of ABC Preschool, which has had a longstanding partnership with Greeley-Evans School District 6. For many years, they operated the childcare program at Jefferson. The program is now run through the Colorado Early Education Network.

About 50 members of the Council met in the commons area to hear information about the district, Jefferson High School, Career Pathways and the CTE Center. The group then toured both facilities, led by students in the programs. The group complemented the students on their knowledge and maturity many times during the visit. As well, the group was complementary to both programs, and asked many questions during the presentation and tour.

The Colorado Competitive Council is part of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the organization is to connect business leaders with policy makers, shaping pro-growth solutions and ensuring that Colorado remains a top state for living and working. Four times a year, the Council visits a different area of the state, represented by the Legislators serving on the council. Rep. Ryan Gonzales is also part of the group, but was not in attendance at the Jefferson visit.
