Years of Service in District 6

12

"There is a lot that the district does that helps me feel valued. Probably in recent years, the pay increases and learning opportunities they have been able to provide, even despite budget crunches, shows me that they want to keep teachers in the district and invest in them as professionals. Additionally, I feel that teachers' voices are valued in this district, and we have opportunities to share in the decision making process for many things."

When you think about your experience in our district, what makes you feel proud to work here?

"I feel proud to be a part of this district because we work together to overcome any and all challenges that come our way - from COVID challenges several years ago, to making up the learning that was lost during that time, and now watching graduation rates continue to increase for all students, no matter their background. It really shows that the staff in District 6 do make a difference for ALL students!"

What keeps you feeling connected to and supported by our school community?

"I feel connected when I have the opportunity to interact with other teachers. When I hear the challenges and successes in other classrooms, it creates a sense of community because, often, I have similar experiences in my own classroom."

What's a fun fact about your job?

"There is a decent amount of wildlife and animals near our school. Monday, I had to stop during my commute to allow a group of pheasants to cross the road. Last week, there was a heard of cows on our playground, and I often hear roosters crowing in the morning as I walk into the building. We also have a designated "goat duty" position after school every afternoon to monitor interactions between the goats that reside nearby as well as the students as they walk home. It's very unique to our location!"

What is one experience with a student or staff member that left a lasting, positive impact on you?

"Last year, I attended the graduation ceremony at Greeley West High School, and one of the graduates who was giving a speech was a student I had in class in 7th grade Language Arts. In 7th grade, he was new to the United States and was also very new to the English language. But, such a hard worker! It left a huge impact on me to communicate one on one with him at graduation, to see how far he has come, and to see that he had become such a leader among his peers and the staff at his high school that he was selected to speak on behalf of the entire senior class! I am so proud of his hard work and excited for his future!"
