"One thing that makes me feel valued and want to stay at my school is when people in my school compliment the students' art I display in the halls and let me know that seeing their art makes the school feel like a warmer, more welcoming place."

When you think about your experience in our district, what makes you feel proud to work here?

"Something that makes me proud of working in District 6 is when my former students come to visit or send an email saying they have good memories of me and miss being in my class."

What keeps you feeling connected to and supported by our school community?

"I feel supported by my school community when I'm asked how I'm doing, not only with my classes and at school, but also personally. I also truly appreciate when people make an effort to come to my art shows and take time out of their day to show up for me and recognize the importance of the arts in schools."

What's a fun fact about your job?

"I have been teaching art for 20 years, so I estimate I've taught around 2,500 students. That means I have said, 'Just because the paint water looks like chocolate milk, doesn't mean it tastes like chocolate milk' quite a bit."

What is one experience with a student or staff member that left a lasting, positive impact on you?

"I remember one student who sometimes struggled with his behavior, but he really enjoyed art. When he had a good day, he'd come for some one-on-one time with me. He really loved Forky from Toy Story 4, so I helped him make his own Forky. He was so happy with the results that he wanted to make another one each time he came to me. It wasn't hard, but it really mattered to him. And, that made me so happy."
