Transportation Puppets Promote Bus Safety

First-grade students at Heiman Elementary School received a special visit this week from our dedicated safety team from Greeley-Evans School District 6 Transportation. The team stopped by to teach important bus safety lessons in a way young learners won’t soon forget.

Rather than a typical presentation, the transportation team uses creativity and fun to keep students engaged. Through lively puppet shows and interactive storytelling, the group brings bus safety to life for students of all ages. One of their most beloved performances features the characters “Safety Bee and Sally,” a show that mixes humor and memorable lessons.

For more than 16 years, Laurie Behring-Howard and the transportation safety team have shared these performances with children from preschool through middle school. Their program has appeared at schools across the district, including preschools, as well as at community events. In addition to their shows, they provide educational coloring books and interactive demonstrations that help young children learn and remember important safety habits.

“Being a bus monitor and driver has been the best job of my life. I will miss the students, and it is always so special to get hugs from older students who saw our shows when they were younger. I also love hearing from teachers who were former students and have watched our programs grow and evolve over the years,” Laurie said.

As Laurie prepares to retire later this year, District 6 recognizes the lasting impact she has made through her service. Her passion and joyful spirit have helped generations of students learn valuable safety lessons. District 6 extends a sincere thank you to Laurie for her dedication to keeping students safe and for the joy she has brought to our classrooms throughout the years!
