Mr. Ramon A. Reyes

Dear Maplewood Elementary School Community,

It is a great honor to start my 3rd year as your principal! In my 23 years working in education as a teacher, soccer coach, and school administrator, my leadership style has always been that of a servant leader.  I have worked at both the primary and secondary levels during my career and have a true passion for education.    

I was born in the countryside of El Salvador where I spent the first 12 years of my childhood with farmer grandparents and 2 siblings. My humble beginnings taught me to appreciate and love the little things in life and small acts of kindness.

When I arrived in the United States at the age of 12, my family settled in Washington D.C. As a high school student, I was the battalion commander to a group of cadets in the JROTC program. Because of the influence from members of the JROTC, I took it upon myself to make a difference in the lives of young children in our community. 

I am blessed to be a father and a husband. Both of my children, Alexandre and Gisele are scholars here in District 6 and my wife Rebecca is a French teacher at Central High School. My family is my strength and we are truly invested in our community. 

I look forward to working with you and to continue strengthening the rich traditions at Maplewood Elementary School.

¡Es un gran honor el empesar mi 3a año como director aqui en Maplewoo! En mis 23 años trabajando en educación como maestro, entrenador de fútbol y administrador escolar, mi estilo de liderazgo siempre ha sido el de un líder servidor. He trabajado tanto en el nivel primario como en el secundario durante mi carrera y tengo una verdadera pasión por la educación.

Nací en el campo en El Salvador donde pasé los primeros 12 años de mi infancia con abuelos agricultores y 2 hermanos. Mis humildes comienzos me enseñaron a apreciar y amar las pequeñas cosas de la vida y los pequeños actos de bondad.

Cuando llegué a los Estados Unidos a la edad de 12 años, mi familia se estableció en Washington D.C. Como estudiante de secundaria, yo era el comandante de batallón de un grupo de cadetes en el programa JROTC. Debido a la influencia de los miembros del JROTC, asumí la responsabilidad de hacer una diferencia en las vidas de los niños pequeños de nuestra comunidad.

Estoy bendecido de ser padre y esposo. Mis dos hijos, Alexandre y Gisele, son académicos aquí en el Distrito 6 y mi esposa Rebecca es profesora de francés en Central High School. Mi familia es mi fortaleza y estamos realmente invertidos con nuestra comunidad.

Estoy ansioso de trabajar con ustedes y continuar fortaleciendo las ricas tradiciones en la Escuela Primaria Maplewood.
