Ms. Erica Castro
My name is Erica Castro and I am starting my 2nd year as the Parent and Family Advocate here at Centennial. This position premiered last year in the district and many things are still being worked out, so I will relay more information to you as it becomes available. We are based out of the Family Center, which is now also the new contact place for Youth and Family Connections. Our purpose at the Family Center is to ensure that the students we serve feel welcomed in their schools and have the resources necessary to succeed in school. In addition to this, we also support our families to become engaged and successful community members.
To give you some background, I have been in the district for 10 years now. I worked for four years as the health clerk of Greeley West High School. I followed that up as the attendance secretary of Heath Middle School. I was allowed to experience many positions and different schools for two years after that as a classified substitute. Lastly, my most recent position for the last two years was as health clerk of Jefferson Jr. High. I am blessed to be here starting my 2nd year at Centennial with all of you lovely people!
As a Parent and Family Advocate, we are here to help engage our families as much as possible in our school environment. We are also here to provide support to our families in many different areas, not only educationally.
I understand there are many obstacles that can hinder a student or family's success and/or engagement within our schools, which can include, but are not limited to, inadequate housing or utilities, transportation, medical needs, lack of food, lack of clothing, language barriers, childcare needs, unemployment, or just not having history with technology. My job is to provide a bridge to support in any way possible. Please call or email me if you need any assistance or have any questions.
