David Thomas was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and lived there for the first eighteen years of his life.  The palm trees in the college brochures looked mighty fine though, and they persuaded him to complete his undergraduate degree in English at Santa Clara University in the Bay Area of California.

After a permanent substitute position at a high school in California, David made two major life decisions: first, he would pursue a career in teaching; second, he would leave the expense and traffic of California to explore what Colorado had to offer.  After completing his teaching licensure at The University of Northern Colorado, he accepted a position for the 2004-2005 school year at Greeley Central.  The 2015-16 school year will be his eleventh year at GCHS.  He currently teaches AP Literature and Composition, Honors English 9, English 9, Creative Writing, and AVID.  He is also the advisor for the school's literary magazine, Cat's Cradle. The joys and challenges of teaching keep David busy and motivated.

When he finds a spare moment away from the profession, he enjoys skiing, flyfishing, playing guitar and drumset, reading and writing, and spending quality time with his wife Jessica, his daughter, Emaline, and his dog Grizwald.
