Hello James Madison STEAM Community!

My name is Kaila Smith and I am so excited to teach 2nd grade this year. I have always wanted to be a teacher, and I am very passionate about creating a classroom centered around building a classroom family and a love of learning. This is my fourth year as a lead teacher, but my first year in Colorado. I graduated from Oregon State University (SCO BEAVS!) with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a B.S. in Liberal Studies. I then moved to Los Angeles, California, and spent the next three years teaching first grade and kindergarten. I have a love of outdoors and STEM, and even directed my own summer camp in Malibu teaching former students how to surf, create movies and use their creativity to complete science experiements. I am so happy to be living in Colorado now, and cannot wait to learn all about the new seasons and weather I will be experiencing.
