My name is Julie Smith. I have been teaching since 1988. Most of those years have been in Second Grade, although I have: taught 6th grade, been a Title 1 teacher for literacy in both English and Spanish for grades 1-3, team taught 1st,2nd, and 3rd grades, been an academic coach, and an ESL teacher. I am certified to teach K-6 and English as a Second Language.
Second Grade is my favorite to teach and I believe Winograd is a great school...so this is right where I want to be.
I have been married to a high school Language Arts teacher/ administrator for 26 plus years. Together we have a daughter who has entered the professional world. Our son, Hayden, is off to his first year in college.
My hobbies are collecting wrinkles while enjoying the sun and making memories with family and friends. I enjoy reading, eating (pretty much all those foods that aren't great for you), and watching my children in their activities. I like to be creative and resourceful. My favorite place to be (besides Room 108 ) is the beach! Maybe you figured that out from our classroom decorations.
I consider myself to be a team member with you, the family. You are the greatest and most influential teacher your child will ever have. I am partnering this year with you in your child's second grade academic education. My promise to you is that I will come to Room 108 everyday prepared to offer many educational opportunities to your child. I will strive to provide a learning environment that is nurturing and safe, where students are valued and can celebrate the joy of their learning. Along with you, I want to make your child's second grade year a great experience. Please feel free to contact me with questions, concerns, and celebrations. Thank you for teaming with me.
