Degrees and Certifications:
Kathy Azari has been teaching band at Brentwood Middle school for 31 years. She also teaches early childhood music through Union Colony Children's Music and has done so for 20 years. As an oboist, she is co-principal oboe with the Greeley Chamber Orchestra.
She attended the University of Northern Colorado and received her Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1989. She received her Master's degree in Education (Diverse Learner) from the University of Phoenix in 1999. She has completed all levels of Musikgarten teacher training and has presented at early childhood clinics and workshops throughout the United States.
She was the Greeley/Evans District 6 Teacher of the Year in 2013 and that same year was awarded the director of a Program of Excellence by the National Band Association. In 2011, Brentwood Band won $10,000 through Glee Give A Note foundation. She was awarded the Outstanding Woman of Weld County distinction in 2007 for her contributions to music education in Weld County. In addition to consistently receiving Straight Superior ratings at CHSAA Instrumental Large Group Festival. Brentwood Advanced Band has performed the National Anthem for Denver Nuggets NBA Basketball games in 2018 and 2019. Brentwood has a thriving jazz ensemble that has received Superior ratings at the UNC Jazz Festival. Brentwood Jazz Band was selected to perform at the National Middle School Association convention in 2008 and the Colorado Rapids Soccer game in 2017. Her jazz ensemble has also performed at the Weld County Fair, Success Foundation, UCCMA Sock Hop, Cesar Chavez Day, to name a few events. Brentwood band students are regular participants in area and state-wide honor bands including The Combined League Honor Band and Combined League Honor Jazz Band, as well as the Greeley All-City Honor Band. Students have been selected to perform in the All-State Colorado University Middle School Honor Band consistently for the last 12 years.
Her husband, Doran, is a retired orchestra director in Greeley and their two children are proud alumni of Brentwood Middle School and District 6.
In her spare time, Kathy likes exercising, playing with her dogs, laughing with her family, and exploring nature.
