Degrees and Certifications:
Hello! My name is Guin Skow. I currently am a second grade teacher. Before teaching second grade, I taught kindergarten for twelve years and fifth grade for two years. I have also taught multiple grade levels during summer school and after school. I thoroughly enjoy teaching second grade, and I am looking forward to a year full of engaging learners.
I received my BA, MAT in Elementary Education, and my EDS (Educational Specialist in Leadership) and principal licensure all through UNC. I consider myself a life long learner.
Besides teaching, I am married and have two fantastic children, a boy and a girl. My daughter is twelve years old, and my son is ten years old. My family enjoys hiking, traveling, playing games, reading, and just spending time together.
Last year our school became an accredited IB PYP (Primary Years Programe) school. As an IB school, teachers and students strive to enhance their social and academic knowledge through six themes throughout the year.
Here are the six themes that we will be focusing on throughout the year:
- Who We Are
- Where We Are in Place and Time
- How We Express Ourselves
- How the World Works
- Sharing the Planet
- How We Organize Ourselves
We will be sending home parent newsletters when we are beginning a new PYP unit. The newsletters will have information related to what central idea we are focusing on for that unit.
Here is a website that has more information about what IB is about: https://www.ibo.org/
