Email:eserrano@greeeleyschools.orgMy name is Eva Serrano, and I am delighted to be part of the Dos Rios community as I enter my 20th year in teaching. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a BA in Spanish/Bilingual-Bicultural Education and in 2006 obtained a MA in Elementary Education. During the summer of 2017, present and past Dos Rios staff members had the great opportunity to visit three schools in the area of the Lancetilla Botanical Garden in Tela, Honduras. Thanks to several Rotary clubs from Greeley and Craig, Colorado we were able to start the construction of additional classrooms. Staff and students at Dos Rios have collected pennies to help with the shipping of school supplies. It was such an amazing and rewarding time to interact with students, parents, teachers, and staff from the Botanical Garden. In 2018 students received uniforms to start their school year and schools were provided with new classroom furniture.I am excited to be your child's Spanish/Culture teacher as we travel on the path of becoming internationally minded. During our time, we will access Spanish as a second language and become familiar with different cultures around the world as we study a new country every month. My goal is for students to learn how language and culture interact in society. In addition, we are using the Calico Spanish comprehensive curriculum to create a Spanish immersion environment for grades K-5th. Students learn through songs, visuals, and hands-on activities to develop their receptive language skills. Thanks to several grants by the Succes Foundation, Bessie Minor and the Community Foundation, we were able to open our Makerspace area in our school! Our K-5 students participated on hands-on activites creating, thinkering, and exploring with the different learning kits. This school year we will be adding a 3-D printer to our area so we continue exploring and learning! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concernsnor stop by at our Makerspace area in room #10.Mrs. SerranoSpanish/Culture Teacher
