Welcome to music!  My name is Mindi Eilers, and I have been the music specialist at Dos Rios for 16 years.  I love teaching music and helping kids discover that music can be a lot of fun.  We sing songs and play basic instruments like recorders, boomwhackers and sometimes, even TRASH CANS!  In music class, we listen to many different types of music and learn how to read music.  Music and literacy work together, so we often use stories and poetry to help us be excellent musicians.

Studying how to read music, creating performances, learning about and the importance of music in different cultures around the world benefits children in so many ways.  Children begin to see patterns in music, which is helpful in math and literacy classes as well.  Working on a performance requires students to learn to work together as well as other important character qualities like being principled and commitment.  Music also provides a great connection between other times and other cultures, allowing to children to identify, respect and celebrate the beautiful world we live in.

I started taking piano lessons when I was 4 and picked up the flute in 5th grade, so music has played an important role in my own life for as long as I can remember.  When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my 4 teenagers on our little farm in south Greeley.  I spend alot of time watching my kids play sports or dance and in our spare time, we like to go to movies or laser tag.

Thanks for being a part of the Dos Rios family.  Come visit the music room anytime and we'll have some fun!
