Lorraine Montoya Mackey

Grade: 3rd

My name is Mrs. Lorraine Montoya Mackey. I am a third grade teacher at Maplewood Elementary in Greeley, Colorado. I have taught for many years. I have a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Wyoming with endorsements in Reading and Spanish. I have an MA in Elementary Education with endorsements in Spanish and ESL. I have taught all grades ranging from Kindergarten to college level to Adult ESL classes. I am currently working on my doctorate in Teacher Leadership doing online courses. However, I am thinking about changing my emphasis to curriculum and instruction.

I have dedicated my life goals to education and to the betterment of my students. I am proud to be able to communicate with my Spanish speaking parents. I am also proud to teach them many English skills in my adult classes.

I have also mentored many college students who are seeking to become educators. I have mentored these young students from the University of Wyoming and Colorado.

I have two grown adult daughters who are also seeking degrees at the University of Wyoming. One is pursuing a degree in Biology/Psychology and the other is pursuing a degree in teaching Kindergarten. I have one granddaughter who will be a freshman this fall at the community college in Laramie, Wyoming.

We truly are a family of educators in more than one way!

I have really enjoyed teaching my third graders this year. They are a wonderful group of students.
