Mrs. Cathy Nelson
Welcome to Meeker Elementary School! Meeker is a wonderful place for your child to learn and grow! At Meeker we are a Leader In Me School and our mission is, "Learn Together, Lead Together". Blended Learning is a method we use in all of our classrooms to engage and personalize learning for our students. We believe all students, students with disibilities and receiving English Language services, are provided access to grade level standards through using the co-teaching model. I invite you to stop by and introduce yourself or to share any questions or concerns that you may have in regards to your child at any time.
I have been an educator for 41 years, and it has been an incredible journey for me! Twelve years ago I decided to move into administration and became the assistant principal at Meeker for two of those years. I have enjoyed my nineth year as the building principal at Meeker and appreciate leading the learning at Meeker. Prior to coming to the Greeley-Evans School district, I was an instructional coach, a third grade teacher, and a special education teacher in the Thompson School District. My first twenty-three years of teaching were in Northwestern Minnesota in three different districts as an elementary teacher and an elementary and high school special education teacher.
I am a wife and mother of six children and a grandmother of four. My husband is Daryl, and he is a CPA who is self-employed. My children are Brent (40), Bryce (38), Kally Jo (36), Kathryn (30), Braden (28), and Blake (26). Brent is self-employed as an IT consultant, Bryce is a stock investor, Kally Jo has her doctorate in Law Psychology and works from home for Arapahoe County Judicial System and has also a research analysist consultation firm, Kathryn is in her fourth and final year in residency in anesthesiology at Wichita, Kansas. Braden is a technology consultant in Denver, and Blake is a financial planner working for Charles Schwab in Austin, Texas. My oldest grandson, Aiden, is seven and will begin second grade this fall. My second grandson, Alex, is 5 years old and will be a kindergartner this fall, and my grandaughter, Addison, is two years old. My fourth grandson, Jack, is six months old. I am fortunate to have my grandchildren close by, in Denver and Fort Collins. I love spending time with them as they remind me to enjoy all the little things in life and how important it is to have fun and to laugh.
Family and education are my priorities. I believe that all children deserve the best possible learning environment to allow them to succeed and grow as a student and as an individual. As a building leader, it is imperative that instruction is based upon student data to ensure all needs are being met and that the best strategies are being used in the classroom. Along with student safety, being in the classrooms to support teachers and students is priority.
Thank you for sending your child to school each and every day on time and prepared to learn. I look forward to working with you to ensure your child achieves excellence at Meeker!
