Building Climate and Culture here at Dos Rios.

My Background

I have a rather unusual background, and it is a joy to share my experiences, talents, and knowledge with all of the Dos Rios learners. I started my career singing opera, studying in NYC, while also working for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Columbia Pictures - Tri - Star. I studied theater at Arena Stage and the Studio Theater, German at the USDA, and Italian at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. I switched careers and completed a Master's degree in TESOL and Communications, including coursework in Instructional Technology, at Colorado State University. I have worked and traveled around the world, from A (Austria) to Z (Zimbabwe) and places in between. Highlights include: studying abroad in Chambery and Paris, FRance; serving as a Web Content Manager at IBM; teaching EFL in Japan; building programs for the Commission on Integrity and the University of Baghdad, Iraq; building EFL programs and opening the Oman office of AMIDEAST; serving as a U.S. Department of State Senior Fellow in South Africa; building an EFL educational gaming project for the U.S. Department of State; and most recently, building EFL programs in Brazil and Colombia. I was a scholarship recipient and member of the 2015 Harvard University Think Thank on Global Education. I am currently a Specialist with the U.S. Department of State and train teachers for Oxford Seminars. All of these experiences haved helped me support Dos Rios as an International Baccalaureate (IB) PYP school.

When not at Dos Rios, I am completing coursework towards a Ed.D. in Global Education, with coursework at Harvard University and University of Northern Colorado (UNC), along with learning to play the ukulele. I helped start the LoveUke (Loveland Ukulele) group. Once mastered, I plan to teach ukulele to the Dos Rios learners. I also enjoy all types of writing, including songwriting, screenplays, and writing novels. I hope to complete two school songs for Dos Rios -- a cheer song and a choir song. And one of these days, I will finish getting my private pilot's license.

Dos Rios Highlights

Here at Dos Rios, highlights include starting the World Day of Cultural Diversity in conjunction with the UNESCO World Day of Cultural Diversity, the Golden Pencil Writing Contest, and Hour of Code (computer programming). Last year, I enjoyed introducing the th grade girls to flying with the Fly It Forward program. Another highlight has been bringing wolf-hybrids from the W.O.L.F. Sanctuary to Dos Rios. In my new role as Music Specialist in the morning, I find myself coming full circle back to music. How wonderful it is to share songs and music from around the world! Speaking of music from around the world, what fun it was to have UNC partner with Dos Rios for their Day of Music. UNC dancers and musicians taught our learners dances and music from Brazil and Ghana. Sincere thanks to Principal Thompson for assisting me in restoring the Orff instruments.

It is an honor to work with your children. I hope they learn as much from me as I learn from them.
