Our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders will be using a digital math program called Zearn. Zearn is a highly interactive, rigorous, and fun digital math program that is aligned to the Engage NY math curriculum. Zearn is designed to be integrated into the classroom, with students spending some time on Zearn each day and some time working with their teacher to problem solve and build understanding in small groups, one on one, or as a whole class.
Most daily Zearn lessons include: 1) a "Number Gym" exercise that helps develop deep number sense and build automaticity, 2) a "Math Chat", "Learning Lab" or "Zearn Squad" lesson that teaches deep understanding of math concepts in an interactive way, and 3) a "Tower of Power" exercise that gives students the opportunity to practice what they've learned. Zearn is mastery-based and personalized, so students will receive personalized feedback as they move through the lessons with the support of their teacher to ensure they cover all of the appropriate content for the year.
You can see Zearn in action by having your child log-in to zearn.org outside of school. Your child should know their username and password, but feel free to contact us if you have any trouble logging in.
Zearn is a non-profit organization that is providing this program to the school and our students at no cost, and we're thrilled to have access to such a rich resource that is so well aligned with our math curriculum. Don't hesitate to contact us with any questions, or to reach out to Zearn directly through their website.
