6th Grade Social Studies

In Social Studies this year, each student will build on skills learned in elementary school and be exposed to various ancient cultures of the Americas.  The main cultures this class we be devoted to are the Mayans, Incas, Aztecs, and Native Americans.  As they study these cultures, students will practice: note-taking, analyzing, academic discourse, in-depth writing, computer literacy, and public speaking.  

To create a safe learning environment, students are expected to treat each other with respect, which leads to students feeling comfortable contributing ideas and working with each other on activities.  

My philosophy is that reading and writing are keys to success, and I feel that if these skills are mastered they offer a bright future for every student.
