6A Social Studies

Hi! I'm Acacia Chacon, Ms. Chacon, and I'm so excited to begin another year at Heath Middle School.  Here in room 36 you can expect to grow as a student, person & community. Collaboration is a huge focus in our time together, effective communication is a skill we will be focusing on heavily throughout the year. We begin our year with our first unit focusing on geographic skills, our second unit takes us down south to Central America where we discover the fascinating lives of the ancient Mayans, Aztecs & Incans!  After winter break, we will begin our third unit where we analyze the effects of globalization & colonization through the lens of the Columbus-era Caribbean region.  We finish our year with our fourth unit on the history of North America's indigenous cultures.  6th grade social studies focuses on the western hemisphere which is exciting because it's not just history but its...OUR HISTORY.  Feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns over the year.  My hope is that as a team: parents, students and myself will work together to make the 2017-2018 school year a rocking success!
