Miss Dea Clarke
Hello Everyone and Welcome to my page!
My name is Dea Clarke, and I teach 3rd Grade here at Dos Rios Elementary School. This is my second year teaching in the Greeley School District, and I couldn't be more excited! I have been teaching for 12 years. The first 7 years were at a small school out on the East plains near Fort Morgan. And before I came to teach in Greeley, I taught in Brighton for 3 years.
A little about my life before I became a teacher
I am from the great state of Minnesota! I lived in the same house my whole life and my parents still live there today. I am the oldest of 4 kids. All of my siblings still live in Minnesota. I started college when I was in 11th grade, but took my time getting my first degree. I was about 20 when I received my Associate of Arts degree from Central Lakes College. The fall after I graduated, I moved to Florida for a year. It was there that I decided to be a teacher. I went back to school and in December of 2004, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a minor in teaching Social Studies from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
What brought me to Colorado
Well, I love to travel, and by the time I graduated, I had been to many places. I don't mind flying, but I am a huge fan of taking road trips. Before coming to Colorado, I had traveled from Minnesota to Florida and from Minnesota to Washington State all in a car! So when my really good friend had invited me to be in her wedding, I didn't hesitate to come to Colorado on the Western Slopes where the wedding was taking place. The wedding happened in October 2006, I was in Colorado for 5 days, but I didn't want to go home! I had the best 5 days of my life and I wanted my life to be in Colorado. I started looking for jobs that very next April and by June of 2007 I had been hired for my first ever teaching job! It wasn't where I had originally had planned to be, but it got me into the state. I have lived in the Greeley area for all 11 years except for the first year when I lived in Fort Morgan.
Some fun tidbits about me
As I said earlier, I love to travel. Since moving to Colorado, I have explored almost every corner of this state. I have also been to so many states... I usually tell people that the only area that I have not visited in this country is the North East area. I will also throw in that I have not been to Hawaii or Alaska, but I am working on it. :) Places that I have been to outside of the United States are the Netherlands, Fiji, Canada, Grand Turk, Dominican Republic, Aruba, and Curaςao.
I collect magnets from all the places that I visit. Also if the place that I visit has a machine that flattens coins, I will usually pick one of those up too. :)
I love to watch movies and just chill. I try to watch movies as often as time allows. Of course some of my favorites are romantic comedies, dramas, and my favorites are when they take a classic fairytale and put a new spin on it. A movie that I would watch over and over again is Ever After.
I enjoy reading a lot too. I am a fan of fantasy books. I really put myself in the shoes of the characters and love to experience reading. Some of my favorites most recently are: The Host, The Game of Thrones series, The Harry Potter series, The Twilight series, etc. :)
I am super excited to be at Dos Rios and excited to be teaching the children in the Greeley District. If you have questions, please contact me. I hope you all have a wonderful day and thanks again for visiting my page.
