Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Helen Paul
6th Grade Language Arts
Hello, my name is Helen Paul. Although I have been teaching for 18 years. When I decided to attend the University of Northern Colorado, I really did not know what I wanted to study. I wanted to improve myself, so I studied English because I was not a good reader or writer. I want to help my students become better readers and writers as well. Reading takes us on adventures, helps us become better people, and helps us escape the confines of school so that we can pursue our own education. Writing helps us to express ourselves and communicate effectively with others. I really enjoy teaching grammar, reading and writing.
In class, we will be using the Reading Plus on-line reading program. This program may be used at home as well. We will be learning about the parts of speech and how words are used in a sentence which in turn will help us to become better writers. We will be reading and analyzing excerpts from chapter books, novels and short stories together. Students will collaborate with each other as well as work independently. Additionally, we will be writing paragraphs and essays as we explore the craft of writing.
On a personal note: I am a mother of two adult children and grandmother of one. I am child of immigrant parents. I have lived in California, Colorado, Arizona, Vermont, New York, Wyoming and Alberta, Canada. I enjoy traveling, food and the Broncos.
It’s going to be a great year. Go Panthers!
