Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Kelly Kennedy and I am an adapted physical education specialist. I work with students with disabilities at Meeker Elementary and other schools throughout Greeley. I provide specialized physical education instruction for my students so they can generalize their skills across environments (i.e. school to home, school to community-based recreation, physical education to recess/outdoor activities, etc.) along with accommodations, modifications (activities, environment and equipment) and instructional strategies. I also provide community-based recreation opportunities for my students such as Special Olympics and adapted aquatics.
I am originally from Minnesota and I am in my 28th year of teaching. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from St. Cloud State University, Minnesota, a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Adapted Physical Education from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville and an Education Specialist Degree in Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. I am honored to be the 2015 Society of Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) Colorado Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year and the 2016 SHAPE Central District Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year.
I have two beautiful grown children, Jennie and Jared and we recently added Finn, our corgi mix, to the family. We will be taking our first family trip out of the country this year and we are very excited. I love to teach yoga, kickbox, hike and stay fit and healthy.
