Communications & Community Relations Department

  • One of the three main goals of the District 6 Strategic Plan is community relationships. This goal calls for the district to “be characterized by open, equitable and two-way communication, unifying the district community and dedicated to student achievement.” Further, the plan explains that good communication strengthens the organizational health and effectiveness of the organization, which, in turn, aids student achievement.

The goal of the Communications and Community Relations Office is to increase public confidence and sense of ownership in District 6 by expanding the community’s awareness and understanding of the district’s plan for improvement and its accomplishments and achievements.  We have received numerous state and national awards for our efforts, including the highest honor given by the Colorado Schools Public Relations Association - the Medallion Award - four years running.

To achieve this goal, the department facilitates internal and external communication for the district administration, parents, students and all other stakeholders in Greeley and Evans.

The communications staff – which has extensive experience and education in multimedia communication, journalism, marketing and public relations – gathers and disseminates information through numerous methods. Among them are: video, which including professional-level recording, editing and graphics production for a range of programming both online and on Comcast channel 16; print products including news releases, feature stories, photos, graphics, posters, fliers, brochures and signage; online media ranging from the district website to Facebook, Twitter and posts to the Infinite Campus parent portal, which allows families to monitor students’ grades and attendance; internal e-newsletters and email news subscriptions; and audio podcasts.

In the 2010-11 school year, the communications staff developed a District 6 Citizens Academy for local residents to learn more about school district operations. A series of seven informational meetings and tours of facilities were held through the course of the school year, with each meeting covering a different area of the district’s operation. The academy was such a great success, it has become an annual program.

This website is another aspect of the department’s expanding commitment to effective communication. It is continually updated with the latest news about district events, reports to the community and information essential to parents and students, from school lunch menus to safety information.

Information is also constantly updated on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/greeleyevansschools.

Staff members provide key support of board of education meetings, year-round aid to professional development, community engagement meetings, presentations to dozens community groups each year, media relations, crisis-management support to schools and administrators, technical assistance for multiple media, and district representation on numerous community-oriented committees sponsored by United Way, Weld Project Connect, the Greeley Chamber of Commerce, CSU Extension, the University of Northern Colorado, and many more.
