Hello Dos Rios Families!

It is with great excitement that I welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year here at Dos Rios! I feel so privileged to have been chosen to serve as the Assistant Principal at Dos Rios Elementary School and look forward to the opportunity to get to know you and your child this year. I was born and raised in Northern Colorado and am beyond excited to serve the Greeley-Evans community. Prior to joining the Dos Rios family, I served students and families in neighboring school districts in various educational roles such as an instructional coach, as an elementary classroom teacher, and as an English teacher for second through tenth-grade students in Egypt. I have additionally supported work for the Colorado Department of Education as a Colorado Content Collaborative Member supporting the evaluation of literacy assessments as well as the development of literacy assessment tools and resources for educators.

As a first-generation high-school graduate, education has always been an important part of my life. Some of the most important people in my life were my teachers and school counselors. Knowing how influential they were in my life, I too wanted to make a difference by serving the students and families in my community. My educational career began after I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 2007. A few years later, in 2011, I received my Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with my Principal Licensure from the University of Northern Colorado. Continuing on my educational journey I completed my Doctoral Program in 2018, receiving my Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, also from the University of Northern Colorado. Finally, in May 2019, I graduated with a second Masters degree from the University of Colorado Boulder in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity. Outside of my time at Dos Rios I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I have five beautiful children and we love spending time in the mountains, playing games, and gardening.

Our team here at Dos Rios is dedicated to fostering student agency, inquiry, and curiosity and developing students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. As an International Baccalaureate school, the students at Dos Rios are encouraged to take ownership over their learning as they explore local and global issues in real-life contexts. I am excited to work side by side with such a dedicated, passionate, and talented staff to serve the Dos Rios school community.

Part of the legacy of success here at Dos Rios stems from the partnerships between our school and the parents and the community. Education is a partnership between the school and the home, and we are fully vested in partnering with families to make sure each child reaches their full potential. It is through working together that we will succeed in bringing the best educational opportunities to your child. I look forward to partnering with each and every one of you and encourage you to reach out to me at any time.

Kindly,

Dr. Heather Kholif
