Dr. Matt Thompson

Thanks for visiting my webpage! It is a pleasure to serve our community as your principal. I was born and raised in Colorado and have lived in Greeley and Evans since 1997. My wife is also an educator in Greeley-Evans School District 6. Together we have two boys, James & John. James attends school in District Six, and John attends school at Aims Community College. We love northern Colorado, and we are proud to call Greeley and Evans our home!

In my free time, I enjoy wrenching on cars, mountain biking, hiking, reading, traveling, and spending time with my family. After receiving my Bachelor's Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in English Education, my wife and I joined the Peace Corps, where we volunteered as English teachers in Bangladesh. When we returned to the United States, I earned my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. In May 2019, I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado (Once a Bear, Always a Bear!) with my Doctoral Degree in Educational Studies: Curriculum and Instruction, Innovation and Change.

Our commitment to the children of Dos Rios is to provide a quality educational experience that fosters an endless curiosity for the world around us. Our students leave prepared for middle school with a solid foundation in literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, Spanish, and the arts through our work with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP). We believe that an IBPYP education is a better way of learning that promotes critical thinking and problem solving, a celebration of diversity, and global citizenship. It also fosters student agency: student voice, choice, and ownership over their learning. Most of our students continue in the District Six IB Continuum of schools via Brentwood Middle School (an IB Middle Years Programme School) and Greeley West High School (an IB Diploma Programme School). An IB diploma is the gold standard in education and is widely accepted throughout the international community.
