Open Enrollment
Families interested in enrolling their child or children in a school outside their home boundary for the 2025-2026 School Year will have from November 1, 2024 through December 19, 2024 to complete an open enrollment application and be included in a school's lottery. Any applications received after the open enrollment period will be placed on a waitlist and will be considered based on additional open seats at that grade level.
Neighborhood schools in District 6 are a great fit for our students and families, offering a well-rounded education that helps students reach their full potential. However, some families prefer programs or schools that offer unique educational experiences that more closely align with their personal preferences, goals and needs. For these families, District 6 offers a variety of schools, programs, and pathways via open enrollment. Open enrollment allows families to apply to attend any district school that has space and services available to meet their student's needs. Explore all of our school offerings using our SCHOOL FINDER TOOL and SCHOOL WEBSITES.
Through this OPEN ENROLLMENT APPLICATION, families will have the opportunity to submit up to five (5) school choices for each child they are choosing to open enroll. While the district is able to accommodate the vast majority of open enrollment requests, we may not be able to approve requests into schools, specific grade levels, or special programs that are at or above capacity or cannot fulfill the specific needs of the student. If the number of applications exceeds the number of available openings at the requested school and grade level, students shall be selected by a random weighted lottery system. See OPEN ENROLLMENT WALKTHROUGH for step-by-step instructions.
Lottery weights are given to students as follows: 1) students of an eligible District employee and 2) students whose sibling(s) will be attending the requested school the following school year. When multiple siblings apply for open enrollment at the same school, they will be linked in the lottery process.
Communication regarding open enrollment status will be sent via email and/or cell phone texts based on information entered into this application. Parents will be notified of their student(s) open enrollment status prior to February 1, 2025. Parents will have two weeks to accept or deny an offer using their SCHOOLMINT LOGIN.
Applications received after the open enrollment period ends will be added to the bottom of any existing waitlist for your choice school(s) in the order in which they are received and will be considered where space and services are available.
