Welcome to Greeley GEAR UP (GU), a transformative seven-year initiative led by Greeley-Evans School District 6 (D6). GU is a discretionary grant program strategically designed to empower and uplift low-income students, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in postsecondary education.

Our Mission

GU is dedicated to fostering educational success and postsecondary readiness among students, particularly those facing economic challenges. This innovative program operates as a partnership grant spanning seven years, focusing on high-poverty middle and high schools within D6.

Program Overview

  • Cohort Approach: GU serves an entire cohort of students, beginning with sixth and seventh grades, and accompanies them through high school (Northridge, Greeley West, Greeley Central, and ECA). At the following schools:

  • Year 1-3 
    • Bella Romero Academy

    • Brentwood Middle School

    • Franklin Middle School

    • Heath Middle School

    • Prairie Heights Middle Schools 

  • Year 3-7 Starting Fall 2025-2026
    • Greeley Central High School
    • Greeley West High School
    • Early College Academy
    • Northridge High School 
  • Scholarship Support: GU allocates funds to provide college scholarships, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder the educational journey of low-income students in the original cohort.

Key Goals

  • Our three overarching goals drive the Greeley GU initiative: 

    • Academic Excellence: Enhance student academic performance and preparation for postsecondary education. 
    • Graduation and Participation: Increase student graduation rates and participation in postsecondary education. 
    • Educational Aspirations: Boost student educational aspirations and knowledge of postsecondary options, preparation, and financing. 
 

Strategic Implementation

GU employs a dual cohort model, catering to 1,899 students in grades 6 and 7 across five schools. The program's success is built in comprehensive mentoring, outreach, and support provided by GU Student Success Specialists (Mentors), counselors, and partners. Key activities encompass instructional tutoring, extended learning opportunities, advanced coursework support, and early college credit options.
