Boundary Adjustments
District 6 has been working with Western Demographics and demographer, Shannon Bingham, over the past year to study options for boundary changes. Ten meetings with the staff and families at the affected schools were held virtually during the month of March. Based on the feedback received, a proposal was drafted and presented to the Board for approval.
The boundary changes will:
-
Create a new boundary for the Tointon Academy of Pre-Engineering, now under construction at 71st Avenue and 10th Street, and slated to open in Fall of 2022.
-
Create a new middle school boundary for the school that will replace Madison Elementary School, which will be configured as preschool-8th grade, and will open in Fall 2023.
-
Balance enrollment at several schools that are over capacity.
-
Remove temporary, portable classrooms from many schools, reducing the total number of in-use portable classrooms in District 6 by 50 percent.
-
Improve and better align feeder schools, so more students advance from elementary to middle school together.
The Bond Issue approved by voters in 2019 will fund the construction of the Tointon Academy of Pre-Engineering at the intersection of 59th Avenue and 10th Street. The school will be built for 900 students, and about 200 seats will be kept open for students interested in open enrolling into the new engineering-focused school from outside the boundary. District 6 will transport qualifying open-enrollment students via several east-west bus routes.
Tointon's new boundary is south of the school site and will draw from several school boundaries including Heiman Elementary School, Monfort Elementary School, Prairie Heights Middle School, a small portion of the Winograd K-8 boundary and a small amount of students from other school boundaries.
The Madison boundary will remain the same, however, the new school will be reconfigured as a preschool-8th grade school. As new middle school students are added to the school, this will remove students from the Franklin Middle School boundary, as well as a smaller amount from the Heath Middle School Boundary.
Other, more minor boundary adjustments include:
-
Small section of Maplewood Elementary boundary to Jackson Elementary
-
Small section of Maplewood boundary to Martinez Elementary
-
Small section of Meeker Elementary boundary to Heiman Elementary
-
Small section of Meeker Elementary boundary to Monfort Elementary
-
Small section of Heath Middle boundary to Franklin Middle
All of the boundary changes will be in effect by the Fall of 2023. Families will be given the option to remain at their former home school, and District 6 will continue to provide transportation for one year. After one year, families who chose to remain at their former home school will need to provide transportation for their student or students.
At its business meeting Monday, April 26, the Greeley-Evans School District 6 Board of Education unanimously approved school boundary changes that will affect some elementary, K-8 and middle schools, and will be phased in over the next three years.
There will be no change to any high school boundaries. Most of the boundary changes are due to new construction from the 2019 Bond Issue approved by voters in Greeley and Evans.
Families affected by the boundary changes will receive direct communication from District 6 about the change and the options available for their students.
